with my W950 + DS970 which do you prefer? 320kbps MP3? Will i notice a difference from 128kbps?
Also, do i just have a simply convert my mp3 files into 320kbps to effectively change them or do they have to be ripped from the CD directly at 320?
And which program do you prefer to convert the files in bulk. I have almost 250 of them. Thanks.

You will notice a massive difference between 128 and 320, even with regular headphones, however use the best headphones you feel you can afford to get even more improvements. The DS970 uses the same earbuds that come with the hpm-70, they will do the job very well. I don't know the sampling rate of the DS970, but I can tell you the a2dp of my k800 is good enough that the 320 Kbps tracks still sound much better than 128Kbps tracks. I wouldn't be surprised if SE a2dp implementations use 44.1KHz (same as CD).

Techmaster says good things about the DS970:
I have tested a couple BT Stereo headsets (including the 590A). Most of the them uses a chip from CSR. They integrate the analog - digital converter on the chip as the BT functions. For this reason I find the CSR solutions do not sound that great. Often the higher frequencies get distorted and the sound is not "clear". The SE DS970 does not use CSR and it uses a separate analog-digtal converter chip. It is by far the best sounding BT headset I have heard.

Sounds encouraging

As to converting, no, you have to rip again from CD There is simply no way to get that quality back once it has been stripped away by encoding at low bitrates. To decide which codec you like best, as a fair test compare a variety of different genres ripped from cd at 320Kbps mp3 and 256Kbps AAC (use cdex) and listen to the same tracks in mp3 then aac and pick the one that sounds best to you. (CDex is the best ripping tool in my view, and free)

@qvga....

rip directly from the cd at 320 as u wont be doing anything by trying to up the rate from 192 to 320 as u cant 'improve' the sound as its already lost the bits to begin with!

and i do agree if u want better sound invest in some very good headphones with a decent range on both bass and treble, u wont regret it!

I thought my w980i had good sound usin the bundled headphones but i spent some money on top end skull candy headphones and now i cant stop listening as the sound is much much better. all encoded to 320kbps ACC as they offer more depth than mp3 and for audiophiles the majority will use ACC over MP3....

The clinical feel of ACC is due to losing less in the transcoding... u are hearing everything that was recorded...

Not necessarily, the clinical sound comes from a too literal interpretation. Some of the nuances are lost, which mp3 manages to preserve. You'll find that audiophiles are by no means stacked in favour of AAC; there is about a 50/50 split in opinion on which codec provides the best fidelity. However I agree with one thing, it doesn't overly matter what codec you use, as long as it's HIGH BITRATE
