Indeed there is this option. |

I feel that SE should not be getting in with the fight for the best touchscreen phone: X1 – they will lose, badly...
Rather they should be making some nice budget phones with great clean fast UI’s. I as many others, enjoy the UI’s of SE phones, they are very clean and clear, that combined with a nice looking budget phone without whizz-bang features would be a big bonus to SE

I'm not going to argue with you on this matter, all I can say is that it varies a hell of a lot - my K850 is bug free, and the few bugs I experienced in the release version and follow-up update have been fixed in later updates. For now, I'm looking forward to R3 for feature additions.
I sincerely hope you get the BROD

@ Duran
Feel free to do so, won't happen. Not that I use it, though, I've got enough others to use...

And does this option speed anything up? |

It speeds up a lot, yes.

Well I turned on my W950 to check it. Turns out I already have transitions turned of. Surprised to see it possible to make the phone even slower by turning it on! O_o
I then tried installing some SIS files which was supposed to speed it up.

Not sure if it worked or not... definitely don't feel it made the speed acceptable.
Generally I just prefer the plain standard Sony Ericsson UI, if only it was as fast as in the Z600, W800 and K800. Symbian and WinCE is just a waste of time to me. Is it A200 I don't like? I suppose I should wait for A300 then in which I naively assume they've made it possible to speed it up by disabling useless animation and transitions.....

Here's a funny fact for ya:
W950 isn't really known for being the fastest UIQ 3 device...

G900 is faster than any of the other UIQ3 phones, according to its users and the reviews/previews.
Also...W950 is considerably slower than even W960 and P1, specially because it lacks a decent amount of RAM, and you won´t be able to benefit from having all aplications running all the time (something that improves speed of navigation dramaticaly)
So, you really should not take the speed of your W950 as an indication of what is like with G900 or G700

Agreed, I rue the day I got my W950i... on a contract.... it just sits there mocking me, trying to make me turn it on again and suffer its 100’s of different input methods none of which are dominant, mine is probably worst than most due to its crappy orange software on it, completely changing the UI into a tiny worded mess |

I used a T650i for almost a year (lost it a couple of weeks ago) and it's really a great phone. Very fast UI, ultra stable, good camera, very good build quality etc... I can't recommend it enough. Also you can get it for next to nothing these days (200 eur)
I also have a P1i and its very good for a UIQ device, waaaay faster than the M600i I previously had.
Finally I am getting a W350i next week, and I hope it will turn out a good surprise. In any case I think it has a lot of "charisma" |

I did come very close buying the T650. But it lacks the QVGA video recording which is marked as NEED in my list, and I have to admit something else scared me a bit: The high SAR value.
Now let's NOT debate about SAR. Just telling that it scared me a bit, also because I heard it was banned in USA because of the SAR value. |

You are absolutely right I forgot about the SAR value above 1.5, which freaked me out! I did not use it as my primary mobile partly for this reason.
Also the W350i has a 1.46 compared with less than 0.5 for the P1i. But again, I will be sparsely using it for calls.
