Will someone please wake me up when SE releases a good phone?
I've been wanting a new phone for ages now, but every time I've had my eye on a new model from SE I get disappointed. Thus I've been stuck with my W800 ever since it came out. Only the K800/K810 beats it in my opinion.
I love the auto-focus in the W800, and the walkman (when using the old playback drivers - not the "improved" ones they put into later firmwares, which mainly just added noise in my opinion). There's nothing wrong with my W800, except a few scratches from lots of use, and the joystick has been buggy for at least a year, but I can live with that. I'd just like a new phone, and the new stuff should be QVGA display + QVGA video recording and otherwise at least the same features as the W800.... Amazing picture quality, fast UI, great sound.... shouldn't be so difficult to find in later models when it's available in an old model such as the W800, should it? Yet, I've looked at new models for a long time (so naturally they're not new models anymore), and I get disappointed every time.
I first checked out the W850... but no QVGA video recording. Further more, the buttons were really not practical, and auto-focus was removed for some insane reason.
Then onto W880. Nope, still no auto-focus.
Then T650 showed up. Yay, auto-focus! But no QVGA video recording. Still, it had a 3.2mp camera and sample pictures seemed ok. I also liked the looks of the green version a lot. I came very close buying the T650, but I chose to wait for "the next model" which surely had to have QVGA video-recording. What a silly thing to do.
K850?! Yir! Now we're talking! This had to be it! No? What? Everyone complains about it? This phone had so many flaws and problems, it was clear SE put it on the streets skipping the QA phase. (Trying to walk in the footsteps of Nokia are we?). I also heard from users that the navigation was pissing them off. When looking at videos I also think the UI has gotten reaaally slow.
Ok ok, I'm a patient man (or used to be)... I can wait (or I used to have that ability).
W890 then? Looks like a nice walkman phone, but SE still doesn't put auto-focus in their walkman phones. Bummer.
Ok, C702 then? Yes!!! No!!! Why not? It has auto-focus and all the stuff I wanted + a few new cool stuff like GPS, but what?? It surely seems auto-focus definitely must be BROKE! Coz those sample pictures are really poor and sad. And I don't care about people throwing technical specs in my face. I have eyes, and those pictures are shit. Don't care if the "technical specs" are better or whatever. That doesn't really do you much good now does it?
C902? Come on. Dunno if it's the Samsung parts or just broken auto-focus, but SOMEthing is definitely not right. Those sample photos are just ugly.
What the hell has happen to SE? They used to deliver quality. But ever since after the K800 it seems they've decided to deliver fashion only instead. I can understand that from a business perspective, since most consumers go for looks only.
Has anyone experienced the same as me and by some luck found some other brand that delivers quality instead of snappy looks? Fast user interface instead of animations taking 5 seconds to show before you get to press next button? Then please do share.
If not.... will someone please wake me up when SE makes a good phone? That means, one that is not slow, and one that has a good camera and good music playback. I'm going hibernating now. Goodnight. |

I beg to differ. The new cyber-shots produce quite nice photos, having in mind that they're still in their initial firmware. Maybe you've seen some pretty old ones (with the proto firmwares)..
Also, have you considered the P1, W960 or G900? |

Same thing told about k850. And it has still got BROD and pink instead of red. |

hello
I have been using w800 past 2 years, And i have replaced it with P990, I suggest u may want to look at some of do it all phones like P1i or G900 or w960 which is good upgrade from w800
Although i have to agree there's that none of these matches w800 sound quality and image quality. On the other u get better resolution 2mp to 3mp /5mp which makes the pictures little better
U may also want to take a look at K850, there are several things improved compared to initial release, and its one of the best all in one music phone/cam phone u can get.And has a great battery life.
If ur unsatisified with those u may want to look at Nokias express music such as 5610 , Or n82 or n95 , n96
Best Regards,
TECHNICAL EXPERT.

You are not alone
I have a W800 too and man, its the best phone ive ever had. Ive been looking for a phone to replace it for 5 months now (my w800 shutdowns at random, takes pictures but saves them at random... ) and finally ill get a G900... but i dont think ill be as happy as i was when i got my w800
I just love SE but they are losing their touch... midend phones and bad cameras... 2 years and a half and W800 and K750 still being the Cybershot flagship (in 2megas cameras)...
I think someday Nokia will get better with battery lifes, user interface/design and sound (N82 camera is a WOW) and ill have no reason to stay with SE. |

I have a W800 as well... but I also have a W890. I agree the camera is a downgrade but everything else is better. I'm loving it and I would recommend it to anyone
However if a good camera is a priority why not buy a nokia?

If you're right, then it'll be the C702 or C902. But I wanna see it first. I don't believe it before I see it. The hardware is limited.
Not considered P1 and W960 because they have no auto-focus. But did consider G900. Although I'd prefer avoiding Symbian I'm beginning to think I can live with it if the other stuff is there. But I prefer a plain Java phone because they (used to be) faster...

I doubt very much I'll ever switch to Nokia. Then rather some Linux device. I do still have half an eye on the K850 though, but I agree with those that complain about the silly glass infront of the lens. That won't last a month before it's scratched now will it?
Do you remember what improvements for example? I was quite happy with the picture quality of the K850, although the N95 did produce better pictures. But I tried the K850 in the shop and it seemed dead slow to me. I don't suppose it's possible to install simple themes that thus speed things up?

I know you're right about N95 and N82 being superior, but I just don't like Nokia and its (current) user interface. But it might end up like that. I would never have thought I'd even consider buying a Nokia. :-|

That is the question....
It seems everyone only has positive things to so about the N82....
But despite of SE's amazingly stupid choices, I still like SE phones the most. All other brands seems incredible slow, and has poor user interfaces. The last few years is just like SE has dumped to the same level and I'm having a really hard time understanding that move. |

Seriously, if you're going to post this BS, do your homework.
Both P1 and W960 have auto focus cameras.

Me neither, but my next one will def be a nokia unless they'll sort theirselfs out with X1 or Shiho.
I'd rather have a less convenient interface than BRODs and a company that's just too lazy to release proper firmware. |

That is why has lost people like me. There are thousands of threads like these not just here on Esato either and is doing not what the customers want but what they want for the customers.
I just looked at the website for the first time in about three months whereas before I would vist every week. It just shows that is going down the drain further and further.
Imagine they haven't even filled the gaping hole left by Motorola. I have to change my signature.
