@dgable, I will add Garmin Mobile XT to the list. The maps are definitely newer than TomTom v.6 and it works pretty well even on a P990.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

but do see this: s60 v3 sofware jumped more than uiq3, because of the sheer number of s60 v3 devices and users out there...one cannot expect UIQ3 sofware scene to be like that right now...with the advent of g series, if people used to buy k800, k850, w610, k750 (like max wedge) start buying g900, g700, well, that will surely change
Well that's definitely true in my case. At present, not having a UIQ device myself, I spend my money (if I can't find freeware) on J2me and WM software. But if I get G900 I will be on the hunt for the UIQ version of all the utlities I take for granted on WM or J2ME platforms.

That comment of yours is pathetic, just like that article, which I bet you were the writer of, seeing that the site is listed as your website in your profile! Lousy attempt at gaining some visitors if you ask me...

I am part of the team of the above site, is more than clear not only I have the website on my profile but in my signature as well but I am not the writer. Either you like it or not the article got linked by many major UIQ related sites and agreed with it.
Just say and discuss your opinion.
Personally I bet that you are more than happy that UIQ 3.3 announced and high end P5 is coming. Finally some major news on UIQ.
That was what the article was all about...
Its very clear from the last paragraph of the article on the first page...

Oh really? I'd hardly say that the article was about Paris or any other UIQ phone coming - I mean, the article clearly said that it's DEAD. Even though I now see that the last few lines are hoping for a new phone. But I'd hardly say that those few lines shine through the whole story, would you?
And personally, I couldn't care less. Have known about it for some time now, so it's no big surprise.

You probably do know about P5 for a while everybody knows you are reliable source.
But the article as and its title states "UIQ is slowly dying" clearly doesn't say its dead...
And with these last news and if they continue like that propably UIQ will get exited again.

Same for me. Even since P800 my everyday live along with my business was based on UIQ never even thought change platform. I proudly followed with P900 and even with the outdated P910 but P990 completely lost it. |

The P990 was a bug fest, but in specs it was far less outdated at release than the P910 was.
Guys, I think the G series has a lot to offer UIQ users, with better touch features. I also think it's worth waiting to see what P5 has to offer before writing off UIQ.

UIQ is very slow in releasing updates. Its trailing behind s60 big time..

I am following this for a while now without talking but after these last posts I have to say that I absolutely agree with MIK-3 and the whole article in the first post. I agree with it 1000%
Sony Ericsson completely lost it with smartphones.
P owners was the most loyal customer of Sony Ericsson but never, never got what they wanted.
P800 was amazing for its time and even after the dramatical delays people waited patiently and got it, they loved it its high-end powers; for its time; its usability, they loved the revolutionary UIQ.
P900 was a good/ok following. And most of the people updated for its better design and quality.
Then P910 had nothing new to offer it was a complete copycat of the P900 completely outdated for its time. Sony Ericsson completely ignored its costumers demands for 3G, better camera from that crappy VGA and many more. Even though a lot of P-users updated to P910 because of the UIQ.
Users of P910 waited more than two years, users who stayed with P900 waited more than three years(!) for the next successor in P series.
2-3 years stuck with a non 3G phone and VGA camera!!
Then the P990 comes out after MANY DELAYS with ok hardware updates, finally 3G and 3.2Megapixels camera and wi-fi. Nokia's lineup by that time included upcoming phones with 5Megapixel cameras VGA video recording, GPS, QuadBand EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA, TV out... etc etc.
Even though Sony Ericsson did it again and ignored its costumers demands for major additions like EDGE support along with other updates, most UIQ users ignored the competition, stuck with UIQ and got the P990...
What they end up with??
Nothing more than a barely working device. The RAM issues of the problematic UIQ 3.0 and Symbian 9.1 made the $800 P990 worthless, not even for business but for basic use as well! Thousands of restarts during web browsing I use to had restarts even within calls and SMS... Firmware updates offered no major improvements and not only that but Sony Ericsson made a statement a couple of months after announcing that they are stopping the development of upcoming firmwares for P990. I remember the worldwide forums going crazy about P990 support even threads with Law suit actions against Sony Ericsson!
So because of all that and many many more the first article is 10000000% correct.
I am UIQ fan, always was and I was UIQ user for many years of my life before SE blow me out...
I am glad to see some news these last days regarding UIQ 3.3 and P5.
I hope P5 will come with many features, UIQ needs a true high end phone that can proudly stand in the market and most importantly to come on time.
The competition is very strong today, especially from Nokia, already offering magnificent devices with everything you can imagine and the promising S60 touch interface to be very close with a fall release.

UIQ is not SE.
UIQ is a good platform that SE ruined.
Lack of UIQ phones is a problem. And so far SE and Moto strategies to roll out units with sub- par features is the problem. SE and Moto's failure to recognise the value in enhancing existing units is the problem.
But as a matter of fact, UIQ and UIQ tech. is more available now than it ever was, even though it's still hopelessly held back by moronic phone- makers who seem to have difficulties with seeing an opportunity to earn money, if they can piss of their customers and do something else instead.
Allright?
UIQ is not SE....
