@seanyb2, well said - and is a duplicate question by a new member really worse than a nonsense (though fun) comment by a non-newbie... We all get carried away (well, fatreg more than me, but still... !!!) occasionally... "nOObs", "knObs" - don't we all bleed red when masseur cuts us (locks the thread, I mean! )??? Peace and unity of disagreement! [addsig]

A joined this forum a few month ago, but I was observing it and made all the search months before I put my first post.
I can see that so many people just come to the forum and without any search simply start another thread or ask question that has been answered so many times. Or ask question that needs some basic knowledge in order to understand the answer. And going through topics in this forum and reading for a while one can learn so much.

@koto,
that's actually a good point: asking a question aaaagaiiiin is one thing, but leaving out any info that makes it possible to answer... That can be like pulling teeth... and I admit: I have done that myself at least (errr...) once!

P.S. how is this a "symbian-phone-query" anyways? So that the posts "count"??? Gotcha!?

esato is global,so things are not that easy you talking, about people who dont know English well(like me)
me as a newbie,i'm aware of all these, searching before asking, always tried to keep my intelligence, faults are because of just being new...reading starting post made me blame myself why didn't i search for mobile forums sooner in primary school....

I wonder how many moronic post can we find with the "search" button? I'm sure I've had one or two... or three. . No harm in throwing around the occasional "piss-off newbie" rant post. Although this may cause some to shy away from posting and resort to using the PM option instead.

My advice is to not fret noobs. We normally call that the initiation stage. So welcome to Esato.

i've been here for a while and i still find the search function hard to use - lots of junk to sift through.

is there an option to search for text included in the topic title only - instead of actual posts? if there is then i cant see it and if there isn't then maybe there should be?

but i agree - the best solution would be a top notch FAQ or maybe even a wiki on which only members with high post counts can contribute?

I recently requested this of laffen so fingers crossed that we'll see it soon

there used to be the Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style) but with more and more phones coming out it was getting so much more time consumnig to keep up to date.

One day I hope to revisit and bring it up to date, unless someoen does something else first of course

but if the FAQ was a wiki then it would be less time consuming for you guys. As long as the you trusted its contributors.

trust me to add things to a wiki?

that wouldn't be a smart move...

i know far too much about phones.. you'd need a new server!

A question isn't stupid if you can't find the answer. Of course people could search more, but realistically that doesn't always happen. The best thing to do is to make information as accessible as possible, and to be patient when someone does ask a question that has been asked numerous time before.

Incidentally I could consider the original post a stupid n00b issue because the original poster joined after I did, and the fact that this issue has been raised before (and I dare say will be raised again).

Seriously though, patience and easy access to information is the key.
