Where have all the newbies come from? |

We're getting a plethora of stupid questions from 12 year olds it seems. The mods should be deleting their backward questions and keep the forum with a degree of intelligence.

I can agree with you. But then again, we all have been newbies

A question is not stupid if you don't know the answer. I personally don't have a problem with them. Admittedly though, some could do with acquainting themselves better with the function, but I wouldn't call them retarded.
I've lately been asking a few stupid questions myself both on here and SE-NSE, as I've just started getting into the software/firmware side of repairs and I've been asking some 'noob-ish' questions!
I have no problem with helping these people, to them what they are asking is valid, and if I can answer the question in a sentence or two I will do. All boards and forums need new blood, and insulting them and scaring them away by calling them 'retarded' isn't on

Well I'm going on the P990i firmware thread and the SEUS threads. There is a massive lack of common sense lacking IMHO. |

I think as long as people do a search before asking a question, and RTFM (Read the F***ing Manual) then I don't have a problem with 'silly' questions. Though I haven't frequented the P990i thread so don't know what kind of questions are asked there - could you give some examples?

This thing about reading the manual is something that alot of people dont do. And I can sometimes tell on the question if they have or not. If they havent, then I do not answer

what I usually do is tell them to look up a certain page number (where the answer is) in the manual (online for that matters). maybe this way they get to open it and read it next time.

It can be daunting here for a newbie as the whole place will be unfamiliar but they soon get the hang of things.
I think the best thing to do is to at least try and help or provide some pointers.
(The search function still puzzles me sometimes!!)

@guy h not every of us is a genious, so let them to ask their questions and imo its really not welcome to judge ANY member, newbie or not and talk about that way, cos your post is very offensive against all newbies imo

I think its time to re-build and make new FAQ's or KB perhaps..just a thought.

With all due respect, this thread doesn't exactly glow with intelligence.
Just one person's observation. |

It's been going on for a good while now. It's mainly the P990i threads that bring the worst out in people. Often it's not down to people being stupid but sheer laziness. They'll see a thread with more than 1 or two pages and then just post a question that has been answered many times before should they bother to read a bit. What then happens is the people who would normally happily help build up an apathy and wont post the same reply over and over which leads to the newbie posting 5 minutes later screaming for help. |

NOT everybody is a genious forum user, NOT everybody has got fones since ages, NOT everybody is a master of searching in the first time...
what do u think, when a newbie is reading this thread, will he feel ok? might be u are right in some points, BUT its NOT the way to talk to imo, cos when u ( an old and respected member ) choose this way to solve a problem, what should we wait from a newbie next time... at least old esato members, who spent hours here already, should show example how to start, discuss and solve a problem...
ps so pls, edit the thread for a more welcome text, cos the actual is offended imo
