i do this with my phone all the time (got a p910i, it doesnt show on my avatar yet). anyway, i went to my local hardware store and got a 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack converter. i plug in my portable speakers (something like a creative travelsound 400) and i'm good to go. true, nothing can beat a cd (except for old school vinyl) but it really pays to get good speakers/headphones. as for formats, heck, the war of "which is the best music format" will never end - but i stick with mp3 because next to or similar to wav, it is supported in pretty much every media device i have. peace out.

I have invented a wind-powered version. Slight design problem re: portability... Apart from that, it should be in shops by xmas (I'm going to be a millionaire!)

No, I think you are missing the point. The object of this thread was to demonstrate that in the originators mind, his w810i is the best .mp3 player ever created.

i don't think it was

Second, he was demonstrating that by destroying a speaker system and using the amp sound quality is further enhanced.

yeah i actually gave them a listen they were pretty damn cool

Debatable but I will go with this premise. Everyone knows that a CD will sound better than a converted file. Duhhhh!!!!!

okay, but as far as I am aware, Sony Ericsson do not produce a mobile phone into which a CD can fit. Nor is there any product on the market that can do all of these things. Except perhaps this early Ericsson prototype (model number unknown)

So I do not see what the debate is here. I was talking about putting converted sounds, i.e. AAC or Loseless on an iPod as opposed to using .mp3.
I think we are now clear on this.

well yeah, we all knew that.

Cutting edge or what...I have invented the Swiss Army Phone.
It sharpens pencils, staples things that need stapling, tippexes out errors, makes phone calls and you can eat you dinner with it.

Patent Pending at the moment, also I am in discussions with manufacturers at present with regards to the production costs. To be honest it's a bit of a nightmare at the moment getting them to sign my confidentiality agreement and i think they might steal my design and end up in a lengthy court battle. It could be months before we see this in the shops but lets hope not.
keep you updated. |

@Dr. Walrus,
If you are in doubt to the theme of the thread, just look at the top for a hint. THe originator has made it clear several times that in his mind, the w810i is the best .mp3 player on the market, ever created. Did you miss that too? Anyway, the originator also talked about disassembling a pair of speaker and amp to create a headphone amp. Did that escape you as well? As for the CD sound quality, if you had bothered to read back in the thread, the sound quality issue was raised. If you are going to criticize, at least have your facts straight.

Ok,
The original poster is a colleague at work, and I've seen (and trialled) this project at various stages of development. Having discussed it with him at some length regarding the purpose of the project and the fact that he was dismantling a set of speakers that i particularly liked, i think it's fair to say that I am right and you are wrong. The modification was simply to improve quality on existing products without spending hideous amounts of money, and the quality (and certainly the volume) is indeed above that of a good deal of portable audio systems. The original poster feels that this is above any system he has had the pleasure of experiencing, which is purely subjective, isn't it.

Nice pictures by the way. If you read back I have said countless times that hearing is subjective, (point for me). I have also said that he can do whatever he wants to do as it is his money, (another point for me). His being a co-worker of yours is moot. Adds nothing to the discussion one way or another. As to you and him having debates at length about this, I hope it was not at work as this would make you both slackers. Soooooooo the moral of the story is, follow along now, I COULD NOT CARE LESS WHAT HE DOES OR DOES NOT DO. I am quite content with my Etymotic headphones as well as my Ultimate Ears so you will not see me purchasing (actually I rarely purchase anything from SE as I get most of my phones free because I do work for them) a speaker system and chopping it up.

actually, my point was that you said:

which is why i stated i work with the originator and obviously this proved the above statement wrong. of course I'm not in doubt.

i think it's entirely relevant, since you told me i was at doubt as to what his motives were.

then we're agreed? how does the fact that you're waving a flag about it make your contribution to the discussion any more meaningful?

he didn't pay for them. and they are still also in working order. scratch that point for you and add two for me?

you sound kinda angry for someone who doesn't care...
i think the walrus i drew took a little more of my productivity time.
