Well cheesed off with mine. K750 totally useless, have stopped using it now (work) and back to using my p900. And, have just sold my w800i before the same thing happens again, using a nice new XDA Mini S.
Have had it with SE phones now, even considering the Nokia N90 at the mo, or the Mio (?) A701, handheld sat-nav device, due out mid febuary. |

Well took my K750i down to my local carphone warehouse, just to get a repair quote, and it turns out that its covered by the warranty, so its a free reapir, so I'm getting the joystick and shutter button done.
So thank you carphone warehouse....except for the temporary Nokia 1100 you gave me....I gotta make do with that crap tilll tuesday when I get the K750 back.
Cheers

I took my K750i today to a SE service and they gave me, a temporary Motorola C115 Imagine the diference After only two hours they called me to inform me that the phone is fixed Because of the short period a guess that there was only dust in the joystick. Going now to take it back, so we'll see. |

Joystick in some of the country is not covered under warranty. |

Got my phone back. The joystick was faulty, so they changed it. So much for the dirt. Now it works like a charm. Now i love my K750 again. Hope this joystick will last |

Mine is still ok after 6 months or so but I'm always half expecting it to pack up. Hopefully it will keep on working properly. |

I have had three Sony Ericsson phones with joysticks, the T610, K700 and K750.
The joystick on the T610 didn't go wrong at all for me.
The K700 did give me a slight problem perhaps two or three times, but both times the joystick went back to normal after further use.
My current K750 has perhaps been the most problematic, with one or two of the directions being intermittant quite a few times since I have owned the phone.
I wouldn't say I abuse the phone much - I don't play games on it and only use the phone for calls and music. However, it doesn't really cause me too much of a problem and I would much prefer to keep the joystick design than move to a D-Pad.
What I tend to do to get the joystick working again after one of the directions becomes intermittant or stops is to go onto the main Menu screen and rotate the joystick clockwise and counter clockwise until all directions work succesfully again. This seems to work best for me at any rate. |

In relation to the carphone warehouse, they've decided my phone is unrepairable at the store so they've sent it to and I won't see it for another 10 or so days!! :@

my w800 joystick is giving me problems as well. instead of going down it selects instead. its frustrating at times, but i still love this phone so i'm putting up with it til the w810 or the k750 successor is released. would love to get the w810, but if the k750 successor user interface is anything like the pics of it, then i'm getting that.

Joysticks stuff up after time, its that simple. My T68m started crapping out after 2yrs, and my K700 is showing similar signs. I never play games, frustriating with T9. I still love the great usability of a joystick over a joypad, i just wish they are more robust.

Just like I posted in the W810 thread, I think that the joystick is not reliable enough. Many people are put off from buying any SE phone because of it.
And its not just because people complain too much.
If other manufacturers are having widespread problems with joysticks then we are obviously not hearing about it. Yes they are easier to work with and play with, but if this compromises the brand's image then I don't think that this will help SE's plan for world domination
I love SE phones but if they really want to continue using joysticks then they need to find more robust and durable designs.

Because of the joystick problems many people are having over SE phones, I've been extra careful with how I use my W800 joystick. Now, it's still working perfectly for 4 1/2 months that I have my phone.
I only use the joystick when necessary; if it's possible to use keypad shortcuts, I use them instead of the joystick. I rarely use the joystick button; I use the left softkey most of the time. |
