AYA, this thread could've been highly informative and entertaining had somebody been able to explain how it has come about that Nokia sells the most, yet has purportedly deteriorated in quality. Quite frankly, it's rather insulting when such generalizations are made without substantive proof. Hopefully this thread can still be salvaged.

Nokia dominates mobile phone sales in most parts of the world. Now, if we apply a bit of common sense it would mean that either most people in this world are stupid and brainless or that nokia does indeed make good quality phones. Another thing to analyse is that people here who say that nokia is a sucker in terms of quality are jingoistic about se. No matter what people say, nokia will remain nokia- world no. 1.

Anybody remember a movie, think it was Back to the Future, where they had MacDonald's 9mm pistols, Disney Burgers, etc....? Who knows, we may very well end up having ToyoNokia, SE-Panasonic, even (heaven forbid) United States of AmerIraq. Improbable for now.... yes. Impossible to fathom.... no.

How about Sonokia? We may think it's impossible but the shareholders may think otherwise. Money talks.... A few years ago it was thought impossible that the 100m could be run in under 10sec. Never underestimate the power of the human mind. It's capable of anything.

One reason why Nokia is where it is today is because the company is "focussed". You only think of mobile phones when one hears the word Nokia! Can the same be said of sony, samsung, sharp, or any other brand for that matter? Will you buy a Nokia television? I won't! Only Ericsson i believe is another focussed telecom company...but.....

Just back from church!

@kryptik: Quite correct. No condition is permanent. Sonokia is not a future impossibility

Again, I must re-emphasize the need for balance. Ahem... Nokiamanix's signature reads "Why buy others? Buy Nokia!!!" That's like the other deep end too, similar to the position of the Nokia-haters.

I can say for sure that there will always be valid reasons to buy other brands besides Nokia. Personally, I do not buy brands. I look for functionality/utility at any given time. Right now its Nokia (9500 and 2285 CDMA). At various times in the past, it had been Motorola, SE, and Siemens.

I won't get into any brand-hating war. I'm too smart for that.

Hatred is an emotion. It's the opposite of love. Now, would you lay your life down for your phone? If not, then you couldn't in all truthfulness say you love your phone. You enjoy it, you value it highly, etc but you do not love it in the fullest sense of the word. If this sounds vaguely correct, how then can you hate a particular manufacturer? Enough to kill? I think not. Or rather, i hope not!
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

i totally agree with you mate! if you said to someone the name nokia 4354388, they'd go, "oh is that a new phone?" and the same can be said about sony with t.v's etc which i think is good for nokia in a way as they are sort of reconised as 'the' phone manufactor

I think SE is also focused, although there are tiny glitches, same as with nearly every large corporation. The key seems to lie in effective marketing, imho. I could well be wrong though. I don't know anything about sales, except how to be a customer hehehe
