The qualities of Nokias has deteoriated. Is this the reason they became Blokias? Or were they Blokias all along? |

your "so-called blokia" :-
- is still the largest phone maker and continuing to increase its market share.
- it is also the world's largest smartphone maker with over 50% market share.
- recently, it leapfrog to the number one position in 3G.
- it has the widest range of phone on offer satisfying everyone.

Are you sure it's increasing its market share??
In 2003 Nokia had 34.8% of the market, by the 2004 it had 30,7%
So the results for 2005 haven't came out yet, and i think it won't be larger than the % of 2003

How important and/or big is the Smartphones market anyway?
Isn't that a very specific market?

I think Nokia has improved over the years! The only thing I don't like is the manner they proliferate fones. Shapes and specs of the fones are great!

I think it says something that a prolific phone buyer such as my self has not had a Nokia since the 8210
I'm not sure quality of the product is the reason because many of my friends and colleagues have Nokias and I never hear of complaints in that department.
The term Blokia almost certainly derives from an amalgamation of Block (brick-like) and Nokia due to the size of their early phones however these days I feel the term is mostly used as a simple derogatory remark against the manufacturer, mostly in what I call a group mentality here on Esato in order to appear to "fit in".
Everytime I see the word used I feel just a little dissapointment given the huge influence Nokia had in the industry in my first 10 years of mobile phone ownership from 1986 including leadership and inventiveness in the communicator market (for example)
I think its time to get over this rather immature labelling and while yes, I do agree that Nokia do proliferate their product, most of my friends and colleagues who own Nokias are very satisfied and rarely complain that there phone is out of dated because a slightly newer model has become available. I think that issue is more for those of us who have a higher level of mobile phone interest and frequent forums such as this.

Well and truly said masseur. I have been a nokia user all along and never ever did i have any problem. Also nokia is always upto the competition....with regular and constant upgrades. I dont think there is any feature in which nokia lags behind other manufacturers. Also nokia has some unique, special phones which other manufacturers dont. people have their own choices. It is another thing that most of the people here prefer se. However, that in no way undermines the fact that today nokia is the market leader. Also its phones are as good when it comes to quality and in some aspects, better.

I saw a report a couple of weeks ago that said Nokia would increase their market share. One thing I miss in SE phones is a dual-mode 3G/EDGE phone.

for 2005, estimated smartphone sales ranges from 5-8% of total phone sales. It is increasing at 3X the rate of the overall market. SE share is miniscule at the moment. |

@masseur & BlueQuill: Nokia had some really big problems with some phone series ...
Also funny you should mention the 8210, a phone that had _really_ big problems.
Sure what phone company don't have problems ... just don't say Nokia don't have problems with their phones

One thing our friend mib doesn't understand is the fact that quantity doesn't mean quality. And that's one factor Nokia lost along the way.Just take a phone and look at the plastic and the screen..market share, yes, quality,no.

The above has my whole-hearted approval and support. It's really unseemly to purport to be an intelligent member of this site, and make intelligent statements in the various forums yet persist in using derogatory terminology. Many of us are quite young, but exhibit far greater wisdom and common sense than many older members. Isn't it about time that the "herd" mentality dies down? Yes, it's one thing using terms like Blokia in jest, as i too have done, but it's quite another when some of us aren't quite as jovial when using the term. It lays the foundations for a flame war, which quite frankly we don't need. It would be appalling if the Nokia enthusiasts decided to start coining derogatory terms describing SE and its performance in the market place, quality/quantity issues notwithstanding. It's time to let it go, gentlemen (and the few roses amongst the thorns)

Just as nokia has its own problems, so does SE. Infact most of the posts here are about SE problems. But just because the phones have problems it does not mean that we stop loving them. We all love our phones, be it a nokia or SE. Aint it so?
