In the Philippines we are still enjoying free GPRS from Globe Telecomms up to March 31, 2002! After that I was told that we will be billed an additional P300/month (US$6.00/month) for 2 megabytes and about an almost negligible amount per additonal downloaded KB!

Here in Slovenia by Mobitel, you can pay 8.9 Euro for 5 MB per month or you don't need to pay nothig per month and there is 1kB each for 1.5 SIT that would be 0.006 Euro (1 Euro is 224 SIT)

this might interest you as a summary:

Country Provider monthly Price € / incl MB Price/MB € Minimum monthly price €
Belgium Mobistar 86 / 50 1.7 86
Belgium Proximus 20 / 2 10 10
Norway Netcom 25 / 20 1.25 25
Norway Norsk 3,25 / 1 3.25 3.2
UK Orange 6.55 / 1 6.55 6.5
UK Vodaphone 1.96 / 1 1.96 2
Switzerland Swisscom 12.9 / 1 12.9 13
Sweden Telia 11.6 / 5 2.32 11.6
Austria Max mobil 7 / 10 0.7 7
Sweden Comviqs 5 / 3 1.66 5
Netherlands Telfort 5 / 1 5 5
Hungary Westel 16 / 5 3.2 16
Italy Omnitel 30 30 0
US Voicestream 46 / 10 4.6 46

As it can bee seen on the above table MOBISTAR is amongst the most expensive in their Tariff.
The problem is that no matter how much data you transfer, the monthly fee will always be 86 €.

How sure are you regarding the future charges? Globe CS people couldn't even disclose to me future charges and said that there hasn't been a memo of any future charging plan released to them as of today.

Vodafone UK is:

GPRS GPRS 1 GPRS 5 GPRS 15

Monthly access

Free £7.49 £17.63 £28.20

Inclusive data volume (MB)

0 MB 1 MB 5 MB 15 MB

Additional usage charges

2p/Kb 0.5p/Kb 0.35p/Kb 0.18p/Kb

Vodafone GPRS has no monthly access charge. You just pay 2p for every 1KB of information you send or receive

Vodafone GPRS 1 costs £7.49 a month and includes 1MB of information. You then pay 0.487p for every additional KB (which equates to £4.99/MB) of information you send or receive. Charged per byte.

Vodafone GPRS 5 costs £17.63 a month and includes 5MB of information. For every additional KB of information you send or receive you will pay 0.35p (which equates to £3.50/MB). Charged per byte.

Vodafone GPRS 15 costs £28.20 a month and includes 15MB of information. For every additional KB of information you send or receive you will pay 0.18p (which equates to £1.80/MB). Charged per byte.
