Great choice Hobbs !! the 1520 is indeed a great phone and so much better with the 8.1 update your installing now.

WP is maturing very nicely and the GDR1 update due at the end of august will bring even more features to the table. Let us know how you're getting on with it when you've updated

I agree- I like mine a lot too, the only thing I don't like is the lack of some apps. Would be interesting to read what you think about it

Congrats again Hobbs!

Doubt I'll make the move to WP anytime soon, but will be interesting to see how you get on with it.

8.1 up and running. straight off the bat instinctively pulled down from the top of the screen (aka android notifications) and to my surprise theres the wp notification centre.thats most welcome indeed.also did the whole home+power button at the same time to take screenshot and was notified that something had change, its now power+vol up.Also most welcomed because I found the home+power button quite ridiculous.1 minute after updating, found two major changes in my favour so am keen to see what else there is.quite exciting playing around with something new.

The notification centre was a welcome addition (coming from someone that has used the wp 8.0) . Cortina is only available in us ATM afaik. The talk was that it will be available in uk and china (I think) soon but afaik is not available yet.

The other thing that I like about the wp 8.1 is that it made lumia 1520 feel faster- really like that

option missing on my start+theme settings page.anyone confirm?
on the youtube clips Ive seen you have:

'you can change the size and number of tiles available on your start screen' and an on/off selection toggle. I dont have that extra setting.

Thought If I changed back to region - south africa and just left the language on english - united states it would be fooled but no,after reboot cortana disappears. so will leave it on region - united states and see if it bugs me with currencies on my phone (like store) now changing to $'s and oviously the metric change for weather etc

Thanks for the cortina tip- however as I live in uk and it is rumoured that it won't be long until is available here I will stay with the English uk. Hopefully it will come before the premier league seasons starts though- it is meant to provide premier league updates...

I have the same settings for the start and theme. Maybe what you read on YouTube meant that you can manually resize and decide how many tiles you can have on the start screen? I don't know about the on off toggle though

ok now that I think about it maybe its not there because the 1520 doesn't need that extra option and its an 8.1 setting on window phones with smaller screens.
