K850 Firmware Overview |

The name display bug is something that unbranded handsets experience on the Rogers network. It is not handset-related but network related, hence the experienced bug on unbranded K850i's.
I am not sure why you are attacking me in the first place by saying I am arrogant and foolish. We have been waiting for months for the update and the least I could do was give some hope that the firmware would be released in tandem with the debut of the K850i w/ Rogers. I am not trying to say that "oh, because Rogers is going to release it, Sony Ericsson will follow suit and dish out the updates solely because of Rogers". We have a clue that this awaited FW's release is imminent, as in this coming week. Rogers is also releasing the K850i next week as well on Feb 5.
So basically all I was trying to do was hope for the best, as in the FW coming out next week. I wasn't trying to promote the Rogers network, or say it is superior to other providers due to a magical relationship between them and Sony Ericsson which you automatically assumed.
No user here is looking for ill-intentions and I am sure we are all here to help each other out. Perhaps you've just interpreted my post differently than the way I intended to.
... well, I just re-read my original post and I guess it was a bit provocative... but I assure you I didn't mean it that way and I must have been excited on a whim that Rogers was releasing the phone as well.

Obentou - I didn't say you were/are arrogant or foolish, I said the statement you made came across as arrogant or foolish. There is a difference since I really don't know you to make a comment about you. All I know is what you posted on here, and naturally things don't necessarily come across the way you meant them on a forum.

IMHO the personality of the person constitutes the tone of their statements... but then again, that's just my opinion. That's why I took your comments somewhat personally. But I hope this misunderstanding has cleared up now. |

Damn the dreaded "Update not available". Oh well, at least my K850 works. My K800 was absolute balls, after about 6 months it decided not to turn on, so I wotaned it, accidentally updated the EROM, had to pay for a firmware upgrade, then it worked for about a month. Then it decided to randomly destroy parts of its memory every so often, deleting my messages and T9 dictionary.
The K850 is a saint comparitively. However I do want firmware that is slightly more stable - 3 are being a little slow with the firmware thing, being stuck on 029 isn't all that great. I don't understand why R1DA039 is on Sweeden only (though as I said earlier maybe I could use it on my phone?). Still, it may not be such a good idea because of the negative effect on the battery. Just how siginificant is the effect the 039/038 has on your battery?

Software versions:

Camera: 3.4
Videocall camera: 3.0

Java: 8.1

That post is what made me check SEUS. Just to see if there was anything for the Western European handsets.
People need to be soooo less aggressive. Way too much of it going on on Esato over the last year.

I just found out that I can assign my D-pad, up-down-right-left, as a shortcut to my favorite Java application. Just press D-pad up, and I get my Opera Mini launched! Wonderful.
yeah... its cool (in previous models u could'nt do that)
em yes you could
Yes u could but only "shortcut to application menu" (can't go further) .. u cant make a shortcut to individual application in K800i/K810i or earlier models

well its pretty cool thing. but still it doesnt work fine with k850. transfering data via BT rather slow. bt i didnt find any app to connect via data cable. if they comeup with kind of thing, then it will b more usefull.
when its conect via BT.... image refresh for only 2sec. (its lower than 0.5fps...!!!)
hop they'l comeup with better solution... |

From Rogers' own website:
(http://your.rogers.com/investorrelations/rogers_wireless.asp)
Rogers Wireless is the largest Canadian wireless communications service provider, serving over 6.8 million retail voice and data subscribers at December 31, 2006 representing approximately 37% of Canadian wireless subscribers.
Are you trying to say that they doubled their customer base in 6 months?
Yes I am. Have a look.
http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/2218/206/
Rogers plans to report fourth-quarter results Feb. 22.
The following are Rogers’s subscriber counts as of December 31st, 2007 (numbers in parenthesis's were subscriber counts on Dec 31st, 2006).
Wireless
* Wireless PostPaid - 5,914,300 (5,398,300)
* Wireless PrePaid - 1,424,200 (1,380,000)
* Wireless Total - 7,338,500 (6,778,300)
This totals = 11828600 ... so I was VERY close, just wrong timeline (I said Q2 vs Q3 of 2007). Rogers Communications has got more power than you think ... (Cable, Internet, Wireless, Radio, etc etc). Their pretty powerful. And very picky when it comes to phone branding, I'd say on par with Vodafone. 5-6mths release of the K850i is nothing to baulk at either as just as sales are beginning to slump because of issues in this very thread, SE will work closely to other providers that they haven't partnered yet with this phone models release to boost sales. Its a smart thing to do. I'm sure there isn't a HUGE team of developers for EACH different model, so when a provider is set to launch 1 of their models, they'll need to work closely to make sure the provider is satisfied, yet the end product isn't something that under delivers.
Considering the large amount of SE models Rogers (incl Ericsson) models Rogers & Fido (owned by Rogers now) has released over the years its considered VERY strong.
(Rogers: T18d, T39m almost launched but used to test their GSM network by engineers only, T28World, T610, T630, T68m & i, Z500 briefly, Z520, Z300, Z200, Z720i, K790a, w580i (white, grey, and pink now in stores, K850i soon.
Fido: T18z, T28, T28World, T200, P800, P900, P910, Z720i that bulky Black/Gold flipphone, z500 offering EDGE months before the network did, z520, z750i by end of this month). Looks like a VERY VERY strong relationship. Looks like Rogers & Fido not only takes care of initial product launches but ALSO products nearing end of product line, helping to clear out old stock.
In no way is it foolish. Honestly we don't KNOW how vast or minimal SE's resources are or the size of their firmware team. If some are pulled away for any provider, plus the fact that the K850i QuickSilver was rumored to have the new 039 Firmware, I'm sure its leaned their resources of mass rollout.

Hi All. Getting this error message from SEUS:
'The application was unable to connect to the server.
Please verify your Internet connection and restart the application.
The application will be shut down.'
Well I know my internet connection is fine both at home and now at work.
Any ideas as to the cause of this? |
