Symbian Foundation plans to release a new version of its Symbian OS every six months. The new plans will see as many as five versions of the Symbian OS being developed at the same time. Each version will take just six months between being feature-complete and being "hardened," or brought to a reliable and finished state. Current plans would have a first release, known as Symbian^2, based on the touchscreen-capable Symbian S60 5th Edition Feature Pack 1 and shipping by the end of 2009, and that's presumably what we'd be seeing in Sony Ericsson Idou.

It's working now (or for me). What can i say.. Looks nice, feels nice (i imagine) but the most important factor is the camera and the price. If it will cost 700$, then it will be a big hit. Other than that, (1000$ or +) it will be a huge failure. Believe me, not everyone can afford to buy a 1000 or + $ phone. Difference is only 300$, but for some people that enough. Manufacturing it will only be 25% of the price if not less. So if they want a big hit, they better check their pricing IMO. Just like the G900. It was a huge hit in japan and china, and in europe too, because of the low price and good features. Looking forward for some alpha-beta still samples. Let's argue about the VR now what do you think.. QVGA or VGA?

Nokia did rip the K850i off in design on the N82. To be more precise, however, they ripped off the W880i in the keypad department. I find Nokias boring in design except the 8800 series. As far as the Idou goes it seems SE has totally customised the interface already. I for one am glad, I can't stand Nokia's terrible interface. |

If the Idou indeed will use a Symbian UI it better be good. It could also use a PSP type interface. That would not be out of the way I think.

i saw once in the camera settings menu an option for "auto rotate". so maybe it's got an accelerometer but still it's uncertain if it's used system-wide as that's never been demonstrated publicly. a cause for concern would be the left softkey on the media menu. it looks to me like a rotate screen symbol. i hope im wrong.
btw, they are obviously modifying the interface. take for example the home screen. it's now got 5 panels: bookmarks? and shortcuts on top of the original contacts, home and pictures. this is good news

Maybe we will be able to change the number of tabs.
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand... Mediar's Site |

the symbol you see is probably to refresh the media this is going with typical s60. bt the tab thing is something new. looks like the "multiple home screens" on the omnia hd. really gud feature if its for real.

then there's this
"The only thing I will say, however, is that they have refined the default interface very thoroughly, so that now the Idou boasts Sony Ericsson’s trademark multimedia menu, custom icons and a unique standby screen setup. All in all, it’s a nice break from Nokia’s standardized apparel, we’ll see how it will work out for Sony Ericsson."
in the mini-preview at mobile-review. doz that mean the whole u.i is like the media menu i.e playstation like? lets hope so(fingers crossed )

Errm NO. Its in NO WAY a rip off ANY SE. Its simply a great successor of the popular N73, the N82 keypad ACTUALY comes from the Nokia N91 which last i checked came BEFORE the W880. Why cant yall accept that the N82 was in no way a rip off of any SE, the keypad statement which turns out to be not true shows desperation in trying to prove that the N82 is a rip of a SE, when its clearly not. whats next? E90 a rip off of a P1? N95 a rip off of P990? Hehe. . .N97 a rip off of the Idou?

Ermm... Those keys are the P900i's which was way before that particular Nokia you mention. The point is SE continued the keypad on the W880i and then K850i then suddenly nokia jumps on board. Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that the N82 isn't a great phone but I'm pointing out the obvious rip off of SE design. |

Well, just to refresh everyone's mind the 8855/8910/8910i already used that kind of keys before p900 did

True razec. The thing is the success of the W880i pushed Nokia in that direction of the key since it seemed to work for SE. And the fact that the K850i employed a similar keypad.
