So I can hope that SE is going to release an S60 device which is not touchscreen? With looks akin to something like N82? I would go for that one!
My anti-Nokia stance have always been derived from their poor battery life (well I guess this won't change with SE's S60 devices) and their crap design. Now if there will be an S60 device with SE's casing design, it would rule! (at least in my books)
S60 may be around until late this year, from Nokia or Samsung. However, in October we'll see Symbian-Foundation device flourish ... I estimate 4 devices launching before mid-November.
You're stand on anti-Nokia for poor battery life?
- they've made some strides ... E71 I get a FULL day, plus a few hours of use: 2hours of phone calls, 3hrs of browsing on WLAN, pretty frequently only not downloading pages for when I'm reading the content, GPS - saved maps + network + cellular location assistances, a few unanswered calls, mms, Nokia Messaging for push email of Gmail & Mail on Ovi accounts (Gmail gets around 20/day) I delete remotely and use Outlook far less on my home PC. Reading a few eBooks in PDF format with native Adobe Reader 2.5LE, and a few more tidbits.
- now with E55 going to debut shortly ... its with 28days standby on 3G not just GSM! SE has been stagnant with system usuage under load for battery life on their NON-smartphones. UIQ handsets, to my knowledge (not 1st hand) didn't fare much better than Nokia S60 devices released in the same timeline over the past 5yrs; G-Series not included.
Nokia crap design? Sorry but the world disagrees from the SE fan base comparing smartphone range to smartphone range. Nokia's S60 has been THE strongest used and purchased, and shipped, and most on wireless provider subsidy of ANY smartphone OS on the market for the past 10years. Ignoring this is simply that ... an ignorance to truth's or facts. Nokia offered a wider range of devices than Samsung, LG, SE, or late try hard Motorola; and Lenovo didn't do SQUAT! Does anyone her realize they where amongst the first to license S60??!!
E71 is a SLEEK qwerty device. Its not aimed at youth or just those that want multimedia; but for the business or organize concious user. If you like the BlackBerry Curve 83xx/89xx/Bold devices then this is something to consider.
IDou ... even with all its features, speed, and great enhancements that I love about the A2 platform ... Media Manager specifically, but a full and only Touchscreen device just doesn't suit my personal needs or tastes. I'm open to its performance; and may reconsider if a less camera intensive device has an even back.
I'm awaiting a non-qwerty Symbian-Foundation OS device from SE ... something close to the G-series or even the Motorola Ruby (RAZR3 type prototype); I want a flip phone with great style without loosing WiFi.

After reading your thorough explanation, I still stand my opinion, despite some fine devices they made, like N82, N95 8GB, E71 and E66. Never said I don't like E71's design but I still won't buy it. You see, I'm a fanboy to the bone. Buying a C905 even after all the hardware and software issues posted here should be enough proof, right? About the rest of the world, well 99.9% of the population can like Nokia designs and I still won't. If all your friends like this girl, and you don't, do you still go for her just because she is the most sought-after girl?
Sarcasm aside, E71 is a very good phone but it hasn't suited my main needs yet. I already have a Bold for those. My point about being anti-Nokia doesn't mean I won't appreciate the good phones they do make. I don't think you've ever seen me bashing E71 specifically, because, well, I never did
EDIT: about the batteries - well, I did pretty much the same like you do (minus the Ovi services of course), on a C905 plus roughly 100 texts and I still get 1.5 to 2 days. Guess it's the only advantage of a dumbphone.

WRONG again!
S60 5th Edition is what ALL beta models of IDOU currently have! Every menu you've seen, every video you've seen thus far is of 5th Edition NOT Symbian Foundation.
Please read and go research as Symbian Foundation has NOT been finalized yet and is being worked on BEFORE its released to manufacturers for testing and then goes Golden Master and released for implementation to final products. Its still 2mth out.
Don't believe me ... read ALL the posts on their blog from their main site.

Ha Ha Ha... Do you think you need to tell me all this??? I know all these things already and never said that IDOU is running Symbian Foundation... I said "IDOU is said to be having Symbian Foundation" by which I meant the final OS of IDOU when it launches and not the one shown in the prototypes...

Good for you.
Ofcourse when coming from a dumbphone to a smartphone the batt life will seem low, then again i tend to find that most anti-Nokia SE users are judging from the good ol' 7610, 6680, N70 etc. . .days and havent used any recent s60s for more than a few hours, and so dont have a clue what they are talking about. My N81 pretty much got me through a full day of Web browsing, Mxit IM, a bit of Ngage and listening to music with no problem, and this was BEFORE it got On-Demand Paging which it now has on the V21 FW. . Personaly i charge my phones every night ANYWAY, so all i need is a phone that lasts me a full college day and im all gud. Newer s60s have great batt life, you want see poor batt life i suggest trying out the HTC TouchDiamond, THEN you will know what poor batt life is.

I know that more advanced smartphones will always have less life in their knackers, the problem seems to lie on the battery itself, the technology behind batteries haven't really changed for years. And yeah the Bold needs charging every other night no matter how I use it
No mate, wasn't a bad day at work. It's a half-week holiday here due to the national elections. If only S60 can come along with SE's body design. |

Ye,and we seem to be stuck at 1500mAh capacity batts, and even those are put in very few smartphones. The Idou has a 1000mAh batt according to GSMArena, thats a bit worrying.

Idou uses BST-33, the same as the W960 does. It's only 950 mAh. With the beta software it lasts about half a day. Depends on usage. But it will change real soon just like in any SE protos .
The sensitivity of the the touch screen seems to be very very similar to the 5800. Also it has handwriting recognition, which is a good thing. Wifi founds signal in seconds. Really! |

Sorry Prom1, but +1 for the "nokia is crap @ designs". Look at the T707.. and look at the 5330... nothing new, no shiny light effects/eye candy from nokia. You can "fool" alot of people with fancy lights. Phone just looks better that way. I really like the design of the C905. what about N95? bulky brick :/ N82? pure K750 ripoff (+ some MODs). E71... :/ I wouldn't buy/take it even if you'd threw it at me. but this is only me. If you like it, good for you. But i prefer SE over nokia designs.
The rest you said is true.

WHAT THE F***!!!?? N82 a K750 ripoff? Do you understand that the N82 is PURELY A N73 SUCCESSOR? What in the world makes you say N82 is a k750 ripoff? These devices are WORLDS apart. N82 a true Nseries candy bar with great specs that SE STILL hasnt matched, and K750 a nice little allround dumbphone. Design wise they share NOTHING except being candy bar, feature wise the N82 is far ahead, etc. . .how on earth is the great N82 a ripoff of a little k750? Please explain? Im slightly tipsy right now but that still sounded crazy.

dudes, i was talking about the designs! When i look a the N82, i see my old K750i. Thats that. Technologywise N82 is lightyears ahead.
but thats my opinion, don't jump me for that.

pom1, thats what I basically mean, when i say tweaked. Most of the the people here, dont like s60 ui, and so they should be liking it, when se changes its ui to more SE style.
Personally, i am a fan of symbian and would love to see more symbian phones from SE.
