^^^
Would you prefer the 1st 12MP camera phone from SE to take low light pics as good/bad as a C902???
If they make the back flat, the whole phone would be even thicker...
The maximum SE could have done was to design the back as C905's back...
Just hope in future a similar SE phone will come which will be slim as well as have a flat back side... |

With proper themes as well as icon packs s60 UI will look nice imo. Believe it or not the fp2 has proven me that s60 can match a200's interface. and i liked its omnia style auto rotation that even the great a200 does not have.

But ain't you a fanboy of the K850 too?
I personally would like to see a more Samsungish take on the Symbian interface from SE. |

Uhmm...NO by far THEE WORST PHONE ive EVER owned, yet the best in terms of its compact design.
You can simply add the Samsung icons to a Nokia, actualy i think there are some themes that have them, and the Help guide in my old N80 had the Samsung icons, very similar UI.

Well if it will be like UIQ, then you can do anything with it! Since you just have to access the C and modify the icons. A200 is diferent, but it supports flash lite and gif wallpapers, and menus too. Thats what i miss in symbian. Will this phone have a dedicated keylock button? iLock FTW but G900 lock button is best!!
October or sooner hope i manage to save some cash if not, it will be a nice christmas present from myself to myself ^_^

I wonder why S60 won't support flash and .gif? |

Because it is redundant for them. symbian natively supports openGL which renders smoother graphics by allowing the hardware GPU to do the work instead of cpu. besides SE flash themes does not have the option of further customizing the icons but instead they are already fixed on the theme itself. if you haven't noticed yet the media players on UIQ phones since w960 to G900 have background visuals, i don't think flash can do this for nonOS SEs yet.

I didn't understand you last sentence.. G900 and W960 media players have flash lite background.

That's what exactly I want: a thin phone and flat back. The bump on the C905's back made me not buy it and that bump on Idou's will also make do the same.

Regarding the release date of Idou, I wish SE release it on an earlier date. The competition is tough right now and the recession is not helping SE cause as well. They need Idou out on the market as soon as possible to exploit the popularity of touchscreen phones and make sales. Unless SE has another device in the pipeline that can atleast compete in features and price with other manufacturers products like Samsung OmniaHD, LG viewty II and Nokia N97, they better hurry up in making Idou ready for commercial sale or they will lose the advantage of having the first to announce a 12 mpx camera smartphone. |

norbi,
What razec means is, the animation in the media player found in g900 and w960i which have UIQ, may/will not work out for the A2 platform.

Well to be honest, the humpy back on C905 is hardly noticeable. But the one on idou would feel different I guess. |

Prom1,
What your missing here is, Its tweaked by SE for SE.
LOL what YOUR missing here is only the GUI layer is tweaked by SE for SE.
* The underlying OS and system is STILL S60 5th Edition in MANY ways:
- Touch Keypad (x4 different versions)
- System for Text Entry and Prediction - I highly doubt SE tweaked this since they & both Nokia license Nuance prediction systems & have in ALL their phones for MANY MANY years. (Between Nuance & Zi corporation; the latter now owned and part of Nuance controls 83% of the text prediction market for ALL cellphones & smartphones Regardless of brand or OS; including Android).
- Sub system of S60 - SMP which UIQ didn't have that SE has ever utilized.
- S60 5th Edition management of WLAN and APN's & VPN access. Here SE may have changed locations in the main menu but its still 5th Edition here.
^ that is just quick few.
The MAIN tweaking & expense they'll put into IDou will be with Symbian Foundation > NOT putting their efforts, time, and costs into 5th Edition only to see it have to redone with Symbian Foundation OS when its released.
Make sense?

Most of us still dislike the S60 of N95/82, etc. But the 5th edition does seems promising and IDOU is said to be having Symbian Foundation which is said to be similar to but not S60 5th ED... Also, IMO, what SE does to the GUI makes the UI look much better then what Nokia's UI look...
Let's wait see what the final Idou's OS will be, good or bad...

WRONG again!
S60 5th Edition is what ALL beta models of IDOU currently have! Every menu you've seen, every video you've seen thus far is of 5th Edition NOT Symbian Foundation.
Please read and go research as Symbian Foundation has NOT been finalized yet and is being worked on BEFORE its released to manufacturers for testing and then goes Golden Master and released for implementation to final products. Its still 2mth out.
Don't believe me ... read ALL the posts on their blog from their main site.

LOL it DOES!
S60 2nd Edition FP2 supported Gif, as well as OpenGL
S60 3rd Edition before FP1, FP2 had support for Flash Lite but it was an older version 2.0.
Flash Lite 3.1 is the latest supporting Flash 10 used on modern PC websites.

Um are you saying NATIVELY you had access to UIQ phones' C drive from the built-in file explorer? Or via a hack using Xplore?
Well don't worry you CAN hack the file system in S60 - ever since 2nd Edition FP2 (then in FP3, then 3rd Edition, FP1, FP2, and now we're waiting in 5th Edition unless thats already recently been done).
You can insert the Fonts you used on your PC as well?
You can do QUITE a lot!
That is why I moved to a Nokia S60 device ... I needed a better calendar and more power for more advanced applications.
Oh and for those of you questioning Flash use in icons with a background - I think N97 displays the Widgets which CAN use Flash, HTML, CSS, Py60 (Python) or Ruby and have a background. I've used a few widgets like Reuters on my E71 and the way the Reuters fades in and out seems to me like its using Flash.

@GUCCI
So I can hope that SE is going to release an S60 device which is not touchscreen? With looks akin to something like N82? I would go for that one!
My anti-Nokia stance have always been derived from their poor battery life (well I guess this won't change with SE's S60 devices) and their crap design. Now if there will be an S60 device with SE's casing design, it would rule! (at least in my books) |
