I've been with o2 online since October 2003 and last upgraded in January 2005 (1st upgrade). I had been waiting for the k800 for my next upgrade and also due to the fact that i was going travelling for a few months in March I didn't want to commit to a contract that i wouldn't be using, so i called o2 and reduced my tariff to o2 25 for £6 a month, with a £75 credit so i wouldn't cost me anything. However I called o2 up on Monday to ask about changing my tariff to their online offpeak 500 tariff and getting a new k800i, and was told that I last upgraded on Feb 24th 2006, it transpires that the guy who gave me the £75 credit to cover the £6 line rental took the £75 instead of an upgrade. So now even though I am paying off my line rental for the remaining 6/7 months of my contract o2 say they will not discuss an upgrade with me because I am contracted to 24th Feb 2007 with them.
Is this correct or have i spoken to a lady who wasn't too sure on the procedure?
Surely they would want to discuss an upgrade as I can walk away from my contract as I have paid it off. I even asked for my PAC and it arrived in the post yesterday. I was shocked o2 would just let me walk away without even asking if they can offer me a deal, last year they did.
Should I phone up Retentions and ask if I can upgrade?
Thanks

Right, spoke to o2 again and they said they definately won't be able to offer me an upgrade til feb 24th. Apparently they'd lose money if they did-not sure how that'd work out.
Anyway they can offer me the k800i to buy outright at £219.99, which means i can get my 20% loyalty discount from the £25 tariff and would be able to upgrade at the end of feb.
I'm trying to work out if it'd be better to take this offer or start a new contract;
New contract:
o2 online offpeak 500 £25 pm for 12 months = £250.00
k800i £49.99
outstanding bill to disconnect £112
- credit already on account £103.23
TOTAL FOR 1 YR: £308.76
Pay for phone:
O2 online offpeak 500 £20 pm (with 20% off) for 12 months = £240
k800i £219.99
- credit already on account £103.23
TOTAL UNTIL 24TH FEB: £356.76

Advantages of keeping current contract:
*Will only have to have contract for 7 months as I am not upgrading, thus total for 1 yr = £256.76.
*Have been with o2 for 4 yrs when next upgrade so hopefully a better deal then.
*Keep same mobile number.

What do people think, can I get anymore out of them and is this a good deal given my circumstances?
Thanks

p.s. o2 told me they have 80% of the total stock of the k800

well I have just come round to my upgrade yesterday, im already on 02 so I should be lucky enough to get the k800i

I am on the online 400 but reduced to £30 a month so i get 400mins + 20mins treats and 1000 texts. I hardly use all those texts but I can use them when in onther countries 1 foreign text = 4 free texts

I phoned up and wanted my k800 bad, i was first quoted £119.00 upgrade fee, and I went HELL NO

It was then reduced to £79 but I still didnt want it, I want it for free, the final offer was one months free line rental aswell, so that £49 upgrade, but I still didnt accept so I knew I wasnt gettin anywhere so asked for the PAC code however I dont particularly want to leave 02 as signal and service is reasonable,

I am going to ring tomorrow, I was wondering what you think the best lines would be to get the k800i for free, I usually dont spend much over the £30 a month so they are never gona throw it at me so im going 2 have to use all of my cunning!!! woo haha

I will do what this guy did if Orange don't offer me a free upgrade. Might work for you too:

I have found the way to get things done, there are 4 little rules

rule 1. Use this FREE number for 02 Retentions 0800 028 8151 - that numbers gold dust and gets you through to the people who can give free stuff away.

rule 2. Say that you have been looking the market and 3 are doing a good deal, 35 quid a month but half price line rental for 6 months and that they give 600 free mins and 50 video calls and 2000 texts and free handset(all true)

rule 3. know what you actually want out of them, for instance all I wanted was a free phone, and I managed to get it reduced from 120 to 50 but I still wasnt happy, so he threw in 2 months free line rental worth £60 so now im on +10

rule 4. If they look like they aint backing down ask for the PAC code and ring them in 2 days as ot gets noted down on their system and they will fight to keep as they know you can leave right away.

keep those rules in mind and be tough you will get it cheaper!

Balls, o2 online have just reduced the cost of k800i handset on a new contract from £49.99 to free.
Do people think this means that the sim-free price they offer me will have been reduced? Personally I doubt it but would love it if they did!!!

i got a nice deal yesterday for the k800, i got a 12 month contract for £10 with 100 free anytime and 500 txt and the phone for £69.99

First off they won't go any lower than £119.99 but I called cancellations and they talked to their manager and offered me the phone for £69.99 and o2 Online 100 for £15, but i was really wanting the phone for free i don't even mine paying the line rental a little higher, then he said quickly the £10 offer so i took it, not bad the phone is now costing me £10*12= £120+69.99 = £189.99 over the year.

Just a pitty i hear that there won't be a memory card suppied with it! dam! need to find a good deal on a 1Gb micro. Anyone know of any?

Just ordered my k800i today as they have new stock in.
I had to buy the handset out of contract for £219.99 as I have 7 months left of my contract, but changed my tariff to Online offpeak 500 with;
500 offpeak any network mins,
30 anytime any network mins,
500 sms
for £12 per month.
Which is ok as I'll be due for upgrade in February
