maybe a dumb question, and sorry if it has been asked before.
but the PS3 has been said to have BT. do u think there could ever be an app to make a PDA or the P series liek a controller or anything? i know i doubt it, but it would be cool.

Possibly. Or you might even be able to use your P series phone as a touchscreen controller !

Id say its a pretty equal gap in games performance. The Xbox versions of PS2 games have always been better to reflect the extra power the Xbox has.
Sony's claims about the PS2 were pretty correct at the time. But of course by the time newer consoles like the Xbox came out those claims wouldnt be true anymore.
From the footage ive seen graphically however, the PS3 does seem to outperform the Xbox 360 noticably. Lets see what Nintendo announce in the near future. |

oh, there's definitely a gap but i don't think it equates to the gap in raw power - and it's definitely not a deal-breaker. i think come retail release a similar story will apply for the next gen consoles.
when i mentioned the ps2 i was referring to the supposed "real time" animations shown at launch which no game has ever come close to achieving. IMHO there's no way the ps3 "demos" weren't pre-rendered.

I certainly believe that the games we've seen, such as the new Killzone are not simply just rendered videos that showcase the systems power, but actual gameplay graphics that we'd see in the final game.
Sure, last time when the PS2 was coming out Sony showed us the duck demo, and the one of the old mans head, and you're right we've not seen any games with that sort of graphic power really.
But, its acceptable to me that when making a complex game, you cannot keep such high quality graphics - something has to be sacrificed. However i do believe from what we've seen from both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 that they're both capable of using such graphics in the final games.
The PS3 graphics may really wow some people, they do me, but they're nothing more than what id expect from hardware with such specifications. Even my current PC goes some way to creating graphics such as those, so it comes as no suprise that the PS3 is capable of more.

wrt the ps2 - i was talking about sony's claims that it could render Toy Story in real time, and the upgraded FFVIII dance sequence which was also supposedly "real time". sony have been pulling that crap for time immemorial.
as for the killzone video, even the wording was sus:
Question: "Is the Killzone sequence a fair example of what people can expect from realtime gameplay on PLAYSTATION 3?" (Playstation UK)
Answer: "It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make," (Jan-Bart Van Beek, game director of the PS3 Killzone at Guerrilla Games)
so all that really means is it's what they'd like to do but we may have to wait for technology to catch up in five years or so. if ever a question begged a direct yes or no answer, that was it. but instead, we get a wishy-washy get-out-of-jail answer for when the finished game fails to meet the pre-rendered CGI animation (which they hope everyone will have forgotten by then).
the more i think about it, the more the sony "launch" just doesn't add up. i think they know what they want to do, but i don't think they're as far along in doing it as they imply.
EDIT: spelling mistakes

Heh, you're so cynical !
I dont think they're trying to fool us. Those Killzone graphics we've seen so far arent hugely more advanced than Half Life 2 on the PC IMO. In fact, id compare them to HL2 on any high end pc, so they're quite believable. They just look much more advanced because of the extra power of the PS3.
Of course theres always the chance they'd have to decrease the graphical effects somewhat, be it down to poor programming and not getting the full capabilities out of the system, or simply because they thought they'd be able to keep those graphics whilst delivering the full game then realised they cant - something would have to be sacrificed.
Whether Sony were lying the first time around is debatable, but this time round if Sony are, then so are Microsoft. The Xbox 360's graphics are just as jaw dropping.

Im the same, but i do find the PS3's capabilities very believable because we've seen similar graphical effects from recent games on the PC.

Don't forget, nvidia admitted this week that the rsx graphics chip doesn't even exist yet. They haven't finished it!

ive seen ff7 (best game EVER!) remake for ps3, its like watching a movie, each person has incredible detail, clothes blow in the wind, cars blow out fumes etc, they are amazing graphics. Also seen PS3 at E3 (i think its E3) where they demonsrate it, its fantastic

All those small details are present in the PS2 and PS1 though.
With the PS3 we should expect much more though than simply better graphics and effects. We should expect much more complex events, such as in a Grand Theft Auto game where every person in the street has their own face, or can talk uniquely, unlike current games where a set amount of cloned people walk the streets.
