@prom1, well symbian foundation's reference platform was the TI 34xx so it should not surprise us if idou will be using it. palm's pre smartphone also uses 3430 cpu.

Sorry for the second quote but its relevant.

Symbian Foundation - didn't even announce the TI OMAP 34xx reference platform until just last week - which means SE had at least 2mths headstart on that by choosing it & 5th Edition.

I'm still amazed how many ppl love it and its abilities - even after finding out its using S60 5th Edition (though not admitting it) - yet proclaimed S60 as pure junk and a failure before UIQ was dead.

Sure most people love what their used to - however, I didn't see anything inside of UIQ that was significantly better than what S60 offered (even before) other than Touch Interface. Some menu tweaks and a narrow phone - but Samsung did introduce a few slim phone looking designs for years now.

Though for some reason I liked the P990i best - maybe because it looked like metal was used in the case; but its thickness in retrospect hurts.

I am not so buying Idou when it is released. The sliding camera lens cover makes the phone even thicker and will not slide in the slim jeans' pocket easily. Also, the 3.5mm adapter has been left out contrary to what the phone line Idou belongs to claims; Entertainment Unlimited.

I think SE has to tie some loose ends here. This device looks very promising and i hope they won't waste the oppurtunity to have their hands on the ball again.

Please, just take a look at the camera of IDOU... It's the camera that's poping out... The lens cover is hardly 1-2mm of thickness...

Edit:

@Prom1

Most of us still dislike the S60 of N95/82, etc. But the 5th edition does seems promising and IDOU is said to be having Symbian Foundation which is said to be similar to but not S60 5th ED... Also, IMO, what SE does to the GUI makes the UI look much better then what Nokia's UI look...

Let's wait see what the final Idou's OS will be, good or bad...

With proper themes as well as icon packs s60 UI will look nice imo. Believe it or not the fp2 has proven me that s60 can match a200's interface. and i liked its omnia style auto rotation that even the great a200 does not have.

Anyway, all we have seen so far is an early prototype, which I belive one of the reps stated is running S60 as a test platform. So hopefully there are vast improvements to come. There better had be, as the last thing the SE brand needs is another device that almost, but not quite satisfies.

It's not really going to have one of those ridiculous lipstick-style styli that dangles off the phone like a keyring, is it? I'm not anti-stylus by any means (though obviously finger should be king for most tasks) but if you're going to have one then be sensible and give it a silo on the phone, not some dangling accessory that's going to:

(a) look stupid,
(b) constantly bang into and damage the phone, and then
(c) get lost.

Just because the likes of Samsung have done it doesn't mean that SE (who have a fine tradition of perfectly sensible stylus-holding touchscreen phones behind them) should get in on the embarrassment.

As far as i'm aware, it will

I don't like it either, but i don't think you'll really need a stylus anyway.

Guys if it's dangling off then you take it off like shown in the picture...It's just there if you don't like to use your finger.

I do not have to look at again because I have had couple of times. No matter what you say it still adds up to Iduo's thickness whether it's the camera that is popped out or the lens cover is just 1-2mm thick.
Why can't just SE make the back flat? I like the way the back of C902 or C510 was constructed because it is flat and does not look like Quasimodo's back!
