Dont think it has anything to do with the latest f/w. Do a format of the internal disk then a master reset. And then update your phone again. This worked on my wifes phone. Atleast for now, no more restarts so far

did you had lots of problems with the firmware version you had when that backup file was made??? if so, i wouldnīt restore it
if not, go ahead, but do this:
first, restore everything except settings
second, restore only the settings
i heard this way, the restore process works better

Cheers for that Ares.
I'll give it a go in stages then and see how it goes.
Mine was pretty stable before but thought it might be faster after a FW update.
Hope it hasn't gone backwards! |

@bytes:
It's in the service menu.
In FC mode press:
jog up, *, jog down, jog down, *, jog down, *
The same in FO mode, but you'll have to open the phone app first (so you have a * to press on...)
I've had some troubles opening it in FC mode, which seems to be caused by Swiss Manager Pro, but opening in FO mode works fine.
Note that you'll loose everything on the C: drive, such as installed apps, settings, ringtones and messages. (Just like when you format Windows.)

@firetech, many thanks
most of my apps and data are in my memory card, going to do smartphone PC suite backup first before trying to do that update.
Cheers |

Don't count on that backup too much, you wouldn't be getting back any of your third party applications. The fact that they are on mem stick will not help much as you'll find out. My recommendation will be to restore the unified inbox, then the settings ONLY, then reinstall all applications. You will also loose all preset FM stations.

makbil, the fact the apps are only in memory card is very important, because if you get those anoying problems with apps keeping asking for install, even after supposely being deleted, you can search the stick and eliminate the problem, something you just canīt do in internal drive
so, my apps are ALL in the memory stick |

There is one more thing I have noticed with this new f/w, and it is the wifi. Before this update when I was using IM+ on wifi it would disconnect the wifi after allmost 15 minutes if I didnt used the IM+ and just let my phone on the table. But now, its online all the time. Now I have to disconnect it my self. This is just super great

Ares, I was assuming that they would be deleted when the internal disk is formated. Actually that saves some time too, then we don't have to spend time cleaning up the mem stick. Personally I find that there is plenty of room on the internal "C" drive so I started installing my apps there, I use the mem stick for backups and data files (docs, mp3, video etc.)

I also think wifi was addressed with the latest fw update. Some problems I used to encounter before no longer show up, wifi seems more stable.

So far so good no more auto restart since the last format internal disk and update.
The apps dont get deleted when in memory card but i have to redo the files for Jabp Lite (importing the my own data files which are kept in memory card). Jabp Lite app itself must be installed in phone memory.
@ares, I do get reminders to re-install apps which I have already deleted such as blackgammon, sms diary and aqua diary, all which I originally installed in memory card. Any tips to get rid of these annoying reminders??
Many thanks guys. So far my P990i still behaves good and imo its still THE phone to carry into the board room
BTW, the SE service center guy told me that the R9EC phone sound level is lower than R9EA. Told him not the case for me. How about you guys?

See http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=141563 for help removing "ghosts" of apps installed on external stick before update.
better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. |

noted @koolezt,
thats not a very convenient way to remove apps. UIQ must at least actually remove the apps including its ghost when user asked for removal and not manually search them out in the memory stick. Accidents can happen when deleting wrong files from memory stick. This is one area SE should improve in their UIQ
Thanks anyway. Cross my fingers and i will go file explorer deleting... |
