As we know the Symbian fondation OS is Open Source. So will Sony Ericsson be able to change the UI? I mean not only the home screen. I hate the S60 inteface ( the menu and so on ), so I hope SE will change the menu, the submenus and everything. The UIQ interface was great, so can SE make the Idou's UI to be the same as G900?
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand...

A lot of people are certainly hoping so.

From the shots it looks like they're replacing the way handwriting recognition works. Which is my favourite feature of the SE stylus phones!

YES
YES
WHY? But YES!

Symbian Foundation OS is Open Source ... when shipped will allow providers (Orange/Vodafone/NTTDoCoMo/AT&T/etc) and manufacturers to change the GUI layout & presentation even how menu's are laid out - but the ability of WHAT will be displayed in the GUI, menu's and how icons can be made WILL be determined by the core OS. Major improvements or minor sent back to Symbian Foundation if collectively agreed upon by ALL or majority of members will be implemented in future updates.

From everything we've mostly seen from Idou PROVES what you've asked.
Don't expect much major change on the 5800's S60 5th Edition keypad - there are 4 different versions of it in the core OS implemented. Be MORE concerned if AutoText can be sourced or not ... if you're not sure .... read my blog about it or ask one of the more astute BB members on these boards.

Once you understand it ... you'll wonder what you've been doing without it. Use it and you'll understand the reason of the CRACK behind BlackBerry.

Why? Because Omnia HD is targeted at iPhone. While Idou is much more like 5800 XM.

gtr83 stop defending SE because they only make mediocre phones, if you what something innovative or very good you have to look somewhere else

I agree 200%, the 5 way jog dial was absolute simple, quick, intuitive, "navigation genius".

I used my CMD Z5 for the best part of 4 years (2000 - 2004) & only gave it up when the charger went & I could no longer get hold of one as Sony had since become SE. Anyway the ease of use & almost full one handed operation the jog dial allowed was second to none. (man i loved that phone!)
OK i agree there were reliability issues over time (mine was still working fine when i left it though) but we are now talking nearly 9 years or so since these were first implemented. Surely in this day & age micro-switches etc have become more stable & reliable? to be able to incorperate the 5 way back in phones?

I for one, would love to see this navigation method back again.

Cheers

p.s. if anyone has an old working CMD Z5 charger, i'd jump at the chance of taking it off thier hands to fire up that old bad boy again!

I'd love to see the 5-way jog dial back. Having had my P900 for over 4 years it never failed me. A pluggable jog dial module would be cool. In case it goes bad, you just hot swap it.

That's true if we do not consider the reliability of earlier models.

^But still the C905 camera still s***s!

I really hope the UI of Idou will be what many of us expected it to be - an interface that the UIQ should have become.
