The link doesn't work for me but I found it by browsing through the site. This is what is says:
It would be logical to design the next PDA in a candy bar form factor in order to cover a larger audience; that’s exactly what is planned for the following XPERIA model, which is to appear by the end of the year. It will finally reach retail stores by the start of the next year, more than a year after the announce of the closest HTC Touch Diamond. Sony Ericsson are doing their best to minimize the time gap between the announces of original HTC products and corresponding ODM developments for SE.

Exactly
That was the most important part of the preview for me
And correct me if I'm wrong:
This quote says that HTC are going to make more phones for SE, or am I missing something?

Id love to see an SE version of the HTC Touch HD, but with the same design as the X1 (including the D-Pad, and optical touchpad) and then on the back a 5 or 8 MPx cam with a xenon flash (possible due to the candybar formfactor) and the inclusion of an accelerometer. Then it would be perfect. It would be like Hikaru but ever so much more powerful and serious for being a WM device.
By the way, take a look at this interview with someone high up in Microsoft (in 3 parts): http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/k6PMR15jrq6h8tJldt
He talks (eventually) about WMnext, he has it running on a Samsung Blackjack, says that the UI is going to undergo a major upgrade, and hints it should be released some time after Q1 2009, for those interested. |

Very interesting. So if the next Xperia device is to be on the shelves early 2009 there is a good chance it will be announced quite soon.

yes.
also android based phone from SE is coming, I think its the one what we saw in JavaOne video. all touch screen (remember they said it'll be announce this year? so It makes sense since the SE's android phone is the second one after HTC Dream)

SE has reiterated that the Xperia brand is not tied to WM so we are likely to see the X series with different OS(s).

SE ought to do just like samsung, because they are using both WM and s60.
I hope SE will use android in the upcoming X-phones |

With the rumour that they might be joining Android soon that is possible.

If Se wants more sucess in smartphone market, then they should go for s60(or s60 touch or UIQ with s60 compatibility), imo. |

Well when Symbian Foundation starts rolling out phones SE will be on that band wagon. So they are going to have 3 smartphone platforms,
1. Windows Mobile
2. Google Android
3. Symbian Foundation

IMO the lack of UIQ is a blessing in disguise: it will open their eyes to other OSs which had so far only been competitors causing them to lose money (to other manufacturers). Now they can have offerings for those OS and show a broader and more complete and hopefully comprehensive strength in their portfolio, attracting more consumers. And when Symbian Foundation finally gets here, what they have learnt from working with other OSs will add to the experience, and they will blow the competition away, at very least as far as we are personally concerned. Seems like the rumours are starting to heat up again, and we could be seeing the turn for the better for SE high end buyers. |
