X1 screen is not bigger than touch pro screen. It may be longer but it's width is narrower. It's roughly the same if you compute the area. |

I guess theres really no news at the moment until closer to September when there is expected to be some more phones being released. |

2.8" vs 3.0" is deceiving between screens that are not the same in proportion.
Imagine a foot tall screen but is as narrow as a needle. Do you consider it bigger??
X1 screen is longer that's why it reaches 3.0" but it's narrower in width so the area is roughly the same as standard 2.8" 4:3 screen.

It may have been announced, and be hotly anticipated, but until i see one, or hear someone in a phone shop say, "yes we'll have them in stock next week", or i stop hearing whispers of delays for software fixing, or hardware improvements, etc etc etc. . . . .
X1 to me is still a rumour.

Lets do some maths:
Touch Pro:
2.8^2 = (3X)^2 + (4X)^2
7.84 = 25X^2
0.316 = X^2
X=0.56
Area of Touch Pro = 3X x 4X = 3.792 sqin.
X1:
3^2 = (16y)^2 + (9y)^2
9 = 337y^2
0.0267 = y^2
y = 0.1634
Area of X1 = 16y x 9y = 3.846 sqin.
So X1's screen is larger.

That's what I meant! practically, 3.792 sqin vs 3.846 sqin are roughly the same.

The way I see it, X1 would have a much better chance if SE could release it around the same time as Touch Pro. I'm OK with the specs that are on paper, what I'm worried about is the rumor that the X1 interface will not be ready until Feb. 2009. SE needs to make a good impression this time, another P990 experience will not help them at all. If they wait until the firmware is stable, they will be too late, if they release early they'll be taking a big risk.
Difficult decision to make. On the other hand, Touch Pro which is X1's direct competitor, is ready.
It's not about brand loyalty, I just want to get my money's worth and to be honest I don't have much faith left in SE based on last 2 years events.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace  So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

The X1 is 800x480, that is not 16x9, it is 15x9.
So, the screen area of the x1 is:
9=(15y)^2+(9y)^2
9=306y^2
y^2=.0294
y=.1715
Area=15*.1715+9*0.1715=4.116 |

Well, with one thing in my mind:
Unfortunately, smartphones developement is not that fast.
Even in Feb 2009 there will be just few really competitive and strong. And all will have flaws. That's my personal view. So, it will be still one of the best choices.
I don't trust HTC so much... |
