alright bac,
ive had my T637 for a few months. awesome phone. lets talk S710... freaking rogers and their penchant with 850mhz. i dont like the swivel but want it for the looks ill get. you got any place in the GTA who has it unbranded and unlocked.
is there ever any get togethers for SE nuts? as in "lets get drunk as f**k, briefly chat about mobiles, and pick up ladies" nights in toronto? cause everyone i know owns a nokia or sanyo from bell and they look at my T637 and think its something from the distant future.

unfortunately the s710 isnt out yet, i got the chance to play with it for a bit and it was an extremely nice phone, but the paint job was not as sleek as the s700i paint job is, the s710 will be out around december
as for the get togethers i have no idea, but it definetly sounds like afun idea |

@ scotsboyuk
Yeah, I have yet to meet any europeans who have been here and disliked it...
@ towson80
I would enjoy that a lot...but your best bet for info would be westmini as he is in the same area as you...I'm in Montreal ;o)
As far as the s710 goes, you can buy it online, haven't heard of any stores that would have it...you can always check little asian-owned independant electronics/cell phone stores...found a couple in Montreal and they have a different selection than Fido/Rogers
@ satcho
if you don't like it, don't read it...nice way to introduce yourself btw...

Here I go . . .
I purchased a K700 in Hong Kong in July, not aware that Rogers ran a 850/1900 network. As a result (of the phone's 800 network setting) my phone gets pretty lousy reception indoors. The battery life slowly improved but is still not that great.
I now go to school in Michigan and it seems that the American/AT&T network is more powerful as I get better signal outdoors, but my indoor reception is still pretty crappy.
Furthermore, I took my phone to Bongo Wireless in Markham (just off of Hwy 7) to get a firmware update, but they said for some reason my phone would not accept it. (I purchased an unocked phone). They said they had never seen the issue and encouraged me to come back at a later date to try again. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance yet.
Not sure what I am getting at, but I thought I would share my experience with the phone. I love the menu and find the interface easy and intuitive. That being said, had I known the reception would be so mediocre, I would not have bought the phone.
Does anyone know another GTA location where I might be able to flash my phone? Has anyone ever had similar problems?
Thanks,

@towson80 For getting drunk with mobile geeks There is the other forum (howardforum.com) where they have such regular events in Toronto and other major cities.
@uwomike K700 flash, just purchase a DSS-20 or DSS-25 and do the flash yourself via the SE website. Usually a customized K700 will not accept anything but the same customization (if a newer version is available). If you bought your phone from a provider (despite being never locked), that might be your problem.

Thank you. I just "seem to know a *little bit* about everything", as my friends like to say
Rogers has an offer on the table to buy up Fido. That offer is open until this Friday (or there about). It's up to Fido shareholders to decide whether they want to sell, and they are expected to accept the offer. Then there is still government approvals to be sought, which have just been granted as of Nov 3.
So roaming between Fido and Rogers may happen before the new year
As for CityFido in Montreal... don't know!
============
EDIT: as it turns out, Rogers/Fido roaming is happening right away... starting Nov 9.

Yay! City Fido now in Montreal, and we also get to use Rogers' network free for 3 months...but migrating to the city fido plan will cost you 50$ in admin fees, and will only start @ the beginning of your next billing cycle...

Have any of you ever understood why with Fido, the price of a P910 (regular price) is the same as a P800? Or that the P800 is still available for purchase when the P900 is not? I don't know...doesnt make much sense to me...
