@jmcomms

They may of seemed surprised which really is no surprise but did they say they would see what could be done about? or is this something that they don't deal with.

What the hell, i just noticed, that when i'm taking a panorama pic, only resolution available is VGA (640x480). All other options are grayed out.

Crap. I hope this is a bug and not a feature. I like shooting panorama pics. :/

This has been the same since the K700. I'm not sure why, but even the K750 (2MP) and the K800 (3.2MP) only have vga panorama mode.

i've discovered possibly the most unusual bug possible....

Using Vista Ultimate x64, whilst transferring files to the PC in Phone mode, if an alarm goes off on the phone then vista will crash. i'm unsure whether this is an issue with vista, the PC suite or the phone though.

Probably a bit of both PCSuite and Vista. Sounds like when the alarm kicks in, it may be interupting the "phone mode" file transfer within PC Suite. This in turn may be causing vista to crash when the connection is lost.

I'd be curious if the same would happen if you were using file transfer mode and explorer to copy the files.

Is it me or do O2 branded phone seem to have a lot of problem, according to this thread? My GF had a similar issue when w800 came out, poor firmware used to wipe out the memory card.

I also have had many problems with branded firmware, where same version non-branded handsets have been faultless. I avoid branded handsets like the plague these days.

I have noticed the flash bug, i guess it might have to do with the light sensor, and distance to the subject of the photo.
have you double checked you aren't obscuring the light sensor when taking hte photo? Some users have reported improivement in flash when they made sure they weren't coveringthe sensor.

Video seems to work fine, i just encoded a Pantera Video (about 3mns) and it was very fluid at 350kbps.

Excellent news, and what I would have expected. K800 can playback 320Kbps faultlessly, so 350Kbps sounds about right for K850. This is good news and shows that the reported "bug" that K850 can't play video smoothly is probably a furphy. I rip all my video with Super or M3 converter, have never had any problems what so ever with video playback on K800.

According to SE video whitepaper released just before K850 announcement, SE 320x240 display phones support video encoded at 320x240, using either H.623 or Xvid codec, ripped at 320Kbps@ 25fps and using the Visual Simple profile. I've found that if I use those settings for ripping video, it allways plays flawlessly and with excellent quality. I assume atleast these settings would work on K850

(note: the Xvid codec is way better quality than H.623)

Wow, this is the most ridiculous release from Sony Ericsson I've seen of late, especially what I'm seeing on this thread. I was hoping the K850i would be nice and stable, but I guess that's impossible since it IS a new platform release (A200).

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait. I'm more than happy enough with my P1i right now.

I am also having the flash problems(Dark pics etc).Spoke to sony erricson about it and they said they have had no complaints about this and that i was the 1st customer to complain about this(They all have it in the office and theres are brilliant).I asked if there would be a firmware upgrade to possibly fix this problem. They said a firmware update would be out in a few months. He said it was more likely a hardware fault and to phone my operator and get it changed.
So i phoned vodafone and told him what happened.I got the exact same speech about them all having it in the office and it works fine for them. They have never heard of it and im the 1st customer in the uk to report it.(I told them to check the message boards as there are hundreds of complaints).
They agreed to change it.Recieved my new phone last night and have the exact same thing.Flash out of synch resulting in dark pictures.Ive tried resetting and changes all the settings but to no avail.
Phoning up today to get it returned and cancelling my new contract.Id rather have my k800i which has a better camera in it than the rubbish they are putting into the k850.

If you have bought the k850i inside the contents there will be a separate leaflet whiich displays the correct way of holding your camera so as not to obstruct the light sensor into producing weak flash. Now you try that and think again before selling your phone.

Don't know if this is a bug...but it's bugging me. Wonder if anyone else experience the same problem.

When I'm talking in the phone my ear presses the softkeys (touch-buttons). Sometimes when I'm talkin in the phone I send an sms to the firts one in the telephone book.
This is really bugging me. I must be able to talk in the phone without the ear messing with the softkeys...

Hopes some kind of locking while talkin in the phone...but still be able some how to get in the menu and telephonebook. But when I want, with my fingers, not with my ear...
Is this qualify as a bug?

It's either you have big ears or you love to rub or move the phone while talking on the phone?

Today I took 6 identical photos in a row where the flash failed to sync. Only the seventh worked when I turned the flash off.

I know about the "holding it" issue, and I can assure you that the phone does not work.

No need for me to "think again"!

Is there a way to write in 72point text and bold type? The flash problems are NOT down to covering the sensor, the LED focus-assist light or indeed the Xenon flash itself; it's a software problem. At least I hope it is, as hardware is a lot more serious.

I'm hoping it is software because I can force the flash to fire in the engineering menu. Else, it might actually be the sensor that's faulty, instead of the flash.

We've all seen the leaflet that shows how to hold the phone - although it also shows me that it's a bad design to need such a leaflet and to make people hold the camera in an unconventional way - but this isn't it.

I've taken loads of pictures where the flash simply won't fire, not even early or late. It just doesn't flash, but it's adjusted the exposure as if it has so the pics are pitch black.

I really do hope it's not a hardware problem, just as I hope SE stop pretending it's the first time they've heard about the problem. As of yesterday, some high up people at SE were certainly made aware when I demonstrated the problems!!

Hey guys... long time lurker here but thought I'd ask a quick question and, possibly, highlight a bug?

I have a Vodafone branded K850i and I cannot change the text size in the message editor. The format > Text size menu and options for Small, Medium and Large are there, but when you try and change the size, it just reverts back to Medium.

Is this a known problem, or am I just unlucky?

It's probably another bug.

With the flash settings; auto, red-eye, off; even setting red-eye (which would ordinarily force the flash), it doesn't always work. In fact, it's no more likely to work than in auto mode.

Anyway, phone is going back this afternoon for them to investigate this, and other bugs. I sincerely hope that as both of my handsets were from one of the first batches (going by the IMEIs) that it isn't a serious problem.

Credit to SE though, they're going to investigate these problems so - once again - this forum will hopefully ensure the phone is turned into everything we hoped it would be.
