Moto V500, or perhaps an SE z600, though I the V500 has a better camera

Hmm....how much do you wanna spend for a new phone....The z800 could be pretty pricey......the v600 seems to a good option, and so is the Moto..

Hmm.. come on people.. Why are you all coming with outdated phones. THey are not in sale anymore and the same way it is his first phone so i thin Z800 and P900 is not interesting and they are no flipp phones...
Samsung X460: Little phone good screen, games and poly ringtones also MMS ready with monochrome display on the outside.
Samsung X640: Its a newer version of X460, has also camera and a little bit bigger internal memory. (9,5 MB i think) witch is enough for pics, ringotnes games and MMS. Not display on the outside.
Samsung E330: Same as X640 but 65 k color screen on inside and out side, MMS, VGA camera, Poly tones and all the other stuff.. Memory 10 MB, can take pictures even when the phone is closed..
LG C2200: Good phone, its a mix phone between Samsung X460 and X640. That means has color screen on the inside and monochrome screen on the outside. But has also a VGA camera. MMS, poly ringtones and some games.
LG C3320: could not se that there is a LG C3300. Its nearly the same as LG C2200. Didn' find some differents, only it has Java 2 and better battery and internal antenna (didn't the right word )
my opinion: You will get most for the money in Samsung E330..
Good luck

If you want your son to have a terrible first mobile phone experience, get him a Motorola. If you love him and cherish him, get him an SE phone. The z600 is nice, does quite a bit and still has a bit of a cool factor. If you can pop for more, ignore the comment about the z800i being so last year as it is still quite a performer, has Memory Stick Duo Support (if you have Sony devices this is handy), has an .mp3 player and is 3G so you can get yourself one and the two of you can have video conferences.
Cheers

AFAIK, SE Zseries phones are classified as clamshells. Pseries are the only Flip phones from SE.

I think z800i is a good choice, it has mp3/mp4/aac player , 1,3mp camera with flash, dual lcd, memory card slot, usb port, bluetooth. yepp... it will last 4 long. but if u'r kid want a simple, sleek one pick motorola v3 razr.
My lovely phones t610, k300, k700, p910 & w800 N9500 & HTC magician My less lovely phones Moto v3 & N6681 |

But if there is a risk to get mugged where you live then V3 razr ain't such a good choice.
I think I would recomend your son a Z600. It've got the things you asked for and I believe it ain't worth that much 'second hand', not worth stealing with other words. |

A z600 would be a good bet. Motorola's in my opinion are awful to operate and not very friendly, but to each his own.

The Z600 sucks! Why do people blab about Sony Ericsson phones. The Z520 would be ideal but because it isn't out yet the V620, the V630 or new Nokia flip phone at about 150 would be good.
Or the V220, cheaper.

thanks for your input guys...
It has now been decided - Samsung X460 - won last night on ebay £38.
- I still like the look of the Z600
Cheers
