Using the Roundabout method

what sort of KBit/s, Hz and Stereo would be best for small file size but still listenable thru SE headphones

Why on earth don't you just use i-tunes? As I typed I just converted 4 mp3's from 320kpbs to 128kpbs for use as ringtones on my K750i, with i-tunes it took half the time it took me to read this thread. It has to be the easiest to use media player EVER, plus it's a free download and you don't need an ipod to use it.

@king, The bitrate to use depends how good your ears are! The test is to convert the same track using diff bitrates and then listen to fine what you can live with. For me i use 128 mp3 and can live with it. More comp makes it round dull and lifeless. As for your dbpwramp prob, try un-installing and re-installing. It's a good tool and worth playing with to get to work.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

To compress a track you first set the enconding preferances, note that you only need to do this for the first time you encode something, unless you want to keep experimenting with different quality settings.

To do this go to EDIT > PREFERENCES > THEN CLICK ON THE IMPORT TAB. Now you need to select what to encode to, I used import using: MP3 Encoder and setting Good Quality 128kbps.Then hit ok.

Now find the song in itunes, right click and go to convert selection to mp3 and it will make a copy of that song at the preffered bitrate in your itunes music folder. To do multiple files at once either select all or select additional files by holding down ctrl and clicking on the song title.

pleaaase, why why people use MP3 on k700, or even k750i??? mp4/m4a (aac) is a superior format...you can always get much smaller files with same quality than mp3

And mp4 isnīt just video for godīs sake!!!! It can contain just video, just audio, or both. MP4 files with just audio are automaticaly stored in the sounds folder

Yes AAC is generally regarding as superior to MP3 (it's primarily used by Apple's ipod), I tried it for a while but the music sounded flat to me so I went back to MP3. AAC is good for low bit rates though, probably why Sony have support for it on their phones but not on the main music players.

You have have lotīs of encoderīs to choose, some are better than others...but my point is that, in the k700 at least, ppl should only use mp4

My personal choice is this encoder

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/dBpowerAMP-codec-mp4.exe

I use the 96kbs option...i end up with files of less than half of the original

@Arez, THANK you! I was reading the thread and all the unknowledgeable statements about mp4 and k700i, you saved me from having to say something!!

MP4 is ideal for k700i - you get more songs for the same quality.

@kingcobraz, persist with dbpoweramp since it does the best compression I've found so far, but if you can't get it to work just use itunes - the compression is still smaller than mp3's - about 75% (as opposed to poweramps 50% reduction) for the same quality.

The only issue, with earlier firmware version, you will need to change the name of the file from example: song.mp4 to song.3gp (putting 3gp on the end tells k700 it is a media file - from there it can work out which folder it belongs in). If you don't do this on earlier firmwares the song just gets stored in teh "other" folder, where it can't be played.

I'm using iTunes to convert my Audio CD to mp4 with 96kbps bit rate and it works fine, better than but the file size is about a half of 128kbps MP3. Now I have 17 mp4 songs in my K700i.

@ Rifqi...

how do i use Itunes to convert my MP3's to MP4's and change the bit-rate...

also, if i use MP4 am i still able to use the song on my K700 as a ringtone and will it still play the same way as an MP3 thru media player on k700?

thanks, everyone...

I tried the MP3 compression on ITunes... and to be honest, i had a song at 4.2mb and i done what was advised and it done another copy of the song in my ITunes folder but it was still 4.2mb
