Download DBpowerAmp from http://www.dbpoweramp.com . Then download and install a mp4 codec from the codec central page (link to page available on that site)
The convert your mp3's to mp4. They occupy lesser space. But be warned, unlike mp3's you cannot use mp4's as ringtones

OK, thanks... is there not just a simple way to change it so the quality of the MP3's are less and therefor are a smaller file... i have a friend who has done this but i cannot contact them just yet...
thanks |

dbpoweramp can set the quality of the mp3.
You don't need to ge down the mp4 route. Also I think making them mp4s would make the files go to the video folder!
dbPoweramp lets you choose the bit rate etc and hence the file size to your liking.
Go download it as it is free and does the job

No it doesnt do that for me
@kingcobra - like Mik said, DBpowerAmp has options to set the bit rate, frequency and downmix to mono audio if you like so you can reduce the file size to the extent you want but there will be a loss of quality.

Hmm, just thinking because mp4s are usually videos.
I can't remember where an mp4 vid puts itself on the K7 now. Does that go into music too then?

I'm not sure how the k700 handles mp4 videos though I've always used 3gp encoding for videos since they're smaller in size than mp4 and all my mp4 audio files are automatically moved to the sounds folder by my k700.

i now get an error when i try 2 compress my file
"The codec needed to compress .... .mp3 could not be opened..."
and then dbpoweramp closes

There is more than one mp3 codec installed i believe. Have you tried all of them ?

You could download some other mp3 codecs from the codec central page and try them. If they dont work, i'm not sure what the problem is.
edit : There is another roundabout way though. Convert the mp3 to wav format, open the wav file with the sound recorder application in windows, file -> properties, press the "Convert now" button, select the desired quality, format(MPEG Layer 3), freq, bitrate, etc and select save. And of course, rename the extension from .wav to .mp3
