Bajie: I-mode has no relation with 3G. 3G is a technique to transfer data to/from mobile devices at high speeds. I-mode is a "middle-ware" solution to offer attractive services using a compact language from NTT-DoCoMo. One thing is correct: I-mode needs a transport-mechanism like GPRS (2.5G) or UMTS (3G) to offer it's content to mobile devices...

GPRS is commonly referred to as "2.5 G": it uses the same timeslots, same antenna's, same frequencies as in GSM...

Well, you can see here what is used.

Ahhh, EDGE. Yes well, that is a different story. It is discutable whether EDGE falls under the term 3G. No Operator yet has reported to use EDGE. What they do in EDGE is nothing more than a new modulation technique and a more efficient error-correction algorithm to speed up the datarates in GPRS. EDGE still uses the same resources as is the case in GPRS.
In general, when referring to 3G, usually is meant: UMTS; because of the needed license to use a new bandwidth. Personally I would consider EDGE as being 2.5G. I can see why a vendor of EDGE-systems would rather refer to as 3G because of the hyped value of the word "3G" but this discussion doesn't bring us futher on this thread

... which was Imode on the P800. Sorry for the sidestep guys.
