Hi there,

First of all i want to say thnx for al of the interesting info i now have thanks to this forum. Thnx ladies and gents!!

As the the subject states i want to know if anybody has information about the possibilities to use Imode on the p800. I allready contacted SE and KPN (the provider of Imode in Holland, Germany and Belguim) But alas they could not tell me if it is posible.

I allready know that the handy is cHTML enabled, but to reach the official Imode content I need to fix the properties which i use to connect to the Imode portal. The unofficial content is attainable deu to his cHTML compatibility, but that isn't (if i'm not mistaking) what i am paying for to my provider.
At this point i'm really desprate for this information deu to the fact i got a NEC n21i and its options are VERY limited as is its 256 colour screen.

With other words I NEED TO GET THIS ABSOLUTLY FABULOUS, NEW, STATE OF THE ART MOBILE but i do not know if i can use it

All information is more than welcome and so is information that is not directly realted to this topic (redirects to other forums and such). I have not read all topics yet but i will. I'm doing a lot of night shifts this week so i've got all the time i need

Welcome.
Looked into the specs for the P800. Neither I-mode or 3G are mentioned.
I've made enquiries as to whether it will be upgradeable but this is highly unlikely due to I-mode/3G being totally different to GSM and GPRS funtionality.

To bart: i followed the link but if i understand the topics they do not know if it is or is not possible to do so.

Or am i just reading them wrong?

To Bajie: From my perspective it is quite likely that they do not mention i mode because it will not be an "official" imode mobile. I have a contact at the developers office with kpn and his answer to this question was (very political); KPN will not sell this mobile in combination with i mode because some features that are required are not possible on this phone. My reply: What features can possible be more advanced on this mobile (n21i) other than the p800. He came up with some BS features who where allready possible on the t28s......... So that confused me even more......

In the menu of the 21i there is a option for the connection number. When i bought it i had to set it to factory setting (2). If i choose for user setting (manual setting) It asks for;

- APN;
- i-mode server;
- portal server;
- mail server;
- user name;
- password;
- http port no

Can i define these settings on the p800??

I really appreciate all the input i can get.

Ps: got my 2nd reply from ericsson they told me nothing other than that the p800 will be available in holland at the end of october (that's a long long time from now )

    i asked Laffen:
    could it be that i have an older version of the WP? I just checked it, but the info you're reffering to, can't find it.

    Got the file named P800 WP R1B intern.pdf created 22-5 12:41, modified 23-5 07:52. I got it via this forum.

    Laffen replyed:
    No, you actually got a newer version of the whitepaper. I just discovered that I've got two versions myself.

    LZT 123 943 R1A (Feb 2002) and the R2B (May 2002)

    But the R2B is for internal use only. :??: Well, Ericsson have made changes to online documentation before...

    Just for your information, I-mode and 3G are totally different and GPRS is used in 3G networks for data transfer. I-mode is a mobile service platform while 3G is the whole 3rd generation mobile network.

    I stand corrected.
    I-mode will work on P800. Spoke with a colleague last night about this and it appears it uses GPRS.
    When we were doing UMTS work last year there was a lot of talk about I-mode in Japan and at that time I thought it was a 3G spin-off but we had to concentrate hard on getting the first 3G call in the UK and wanted to beat them so I didn't have time to dig any deeper.
    But some of the people I spoke to before I posted couldn't give me a definite answer.

    Orange: GPRS is not used in 3G. 3G stands for a new technology, using higher frequencies (new antenna's needed) new coding techniques and errorcorrection-algorithms to transfer data to/from mobile devices at high speeds. GPRS is commonly referred to as "2.5 G": it uses the same timeslots, same antenna's, same frequencies as in GSM...
