Using XP with SP1 you still need to load drivers for BT, such as the ones that come with your dongle. If you install SP2, BT support is built-in and is actually better than the SW that comes with your kit. For a start it allows you to use Native Mode Bluetooth, which is much, much faster than port emulation, which is what you use with dongle drivers.

I use it everyday with FMA and it connects in seconds. Even the largest files can be uploaded or downloaded at lightning speed.

i've installed WinXP with SP1 to be able to use FMA! my dongle uses IVT BlueSoleil to pair and manage bt devices.
i've copied and pasted the address of my dongle that is shown in IVT software to the Native Bluetooth option of FMA but it does nothing!

so i've tried the Serial Port option. all ports have been tested but with all of them, FMA hangs!! (ver 2.0.0.19)
but the only thing that should be mentioned is that when i choose COM5, the IVT software connects the serial port connection but FMA does nothing...

is there any software that i should download to get rid of this problem or any plugin for FMA or bluetooth dongle?

p.s. everything seems ok with my bt connection and IVT software.

Please go to fMA support forum. There are existing threads about known issues with Bluesoleil.

after reading the mentioned forum and related topics, i found that FMA 0.1.0.35 RC5 works with IVT BlueSoleil, but i could find any download link for this release!

also some people are saying that Widcomm 1.4.2-Build10 SP4 works with FMA on WinXP with SP2. if it works even on SP1, can you tell me where can i download this driver?

at last which one is preferred?

thanx,
Sean

Man do yourself a favour and get sp2. The native xp sp2 drivers kick arse - I've just tried it myself. All my machines were upgraded to sp2 with bt drivers already installed, so I'd never actually realised the advantage of the native XP support.

I've just uninstalled the crappy manufacturer driver and I'm using native XP drivers now.

Awesome!

Native XP drivers from SP2 do not support all the profiles that Widcomm drivers, for example, support. One of them is the headset profile.

I have to admit that the native drivers are easier to use but one has to choose:

comfort vs functonality.

yes, I've just found that. I also seem to have a problem with remote control - it keeps prompting my phone (but won't install the files). I had to turn off the hid service.

Still the speed improvement is nice...

Man, get SP2. If you can't, then try the latest drivers, http://www.bluesoleil.com/update/index.asp, or keep googling and get a hold of either widcomm version you mentioned or the fma version you mentioned. It doesn't matter which you try first, you will have to try them both until one works.

I use widcom without a problem. Dlink DBT120 dongle. Any version of FMA.

Windows XP SP1 works without a question of a doubt, so if you can't get it working it's either a hardware problem (the adapter is faulty or incompatible with fma) or a software conflict. test the dongle in someone else's computer if you can to help - if it works in another pc, then it may be just software conflict on yours. The only answer then is to get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it, or nuke and pave buddy (reinstall)

Sounds to me however that that adapter just doesn't like FMA. You probably really do need one of those widcom or fma packages mentioned, if that is the case then either should work.

SP2 is not a cure-all for the BT issues.

The list of downloadable files from the fMa project.

Good luck.

PS
Have you considered exchanging that dongle for something less problematic?

SP2 is not a cure all, I don't think it is, but it is WAY faster than serial emultation for file transfer of BT. If serial port emulation isn't working (it hangs when he uses the correct port), then it may just work with SP2 native drivers, so installing SP2 may well fix the issue (and SP2 is a good XP base level to have. Lot's of important security patches in there) without having to find the suggested downloads.

OBVIOUSLY aulason should change the dongle, but aulason is still playing with his ivt bluesoleil crap dongle, despite many early posts to this thread indicating that either SP1 or SP2 works fine with any version of FMA, so I'm guessing he is stuck with it for whatever reason.

i've downloaded FMA 0.1.0.35 and now it works but since it is an old version it doesn't support all the features of K700i (it is mostly generated for T610). iac, now the only most-used feature that i'm using is composing messages cuz it even doesn't get received messages at all!!

i'll upgrade my os to SP2 as soon as i can.

Yeah, even the latest version doesn't seem to fully support K700i. For example I can't use the take photo feature, and file management can only copy one file at a time. Also, the profiles feature doesn't work.

Everything else seems fine!

Still I might have a look at the fma forums myself, incase they have any info..

You should check this guide. It helped me alot since BS drivers seems to be kinda messed and now everything works fine. Also, don't forget to update FMA through built-in update checker.
