As illustrated in the guide on how to modify a data cable into a service cable, the cable may look the same on the outside but internally it wired differently.
Therefore there are two different types. The one with the rectangular box is known as a Fighter (service) cable and requires drivers.
The 2nd type is a data cable externally but modified internally into a service cable.
I hope this clears this mess up now!

As indicated in my posted picture, I am 99.9% sure that yours is a service cable (because of the label).
Typically the "T28" cable is used for remote unlocking where you need to buy credits and log on to a remote server.
I assume the "Fighter" cable requres purchasing of the "Fighter" hardware in addition to the cable.
You can verify whether a cable is DATA by using it to do dial-up or communicate with the phone using HyperTerminal. If you can dial-up or get response with various AT commands, then it's DATA and not SERVICE.
Another easy way to check is for a service cable, there is voltage between pins 9 and 10. With a data cable, there is no voltage.
pin 1 -> |........|. ..| <- pin 11

Regarding the description you will get an flashing/unlocking cable. Forget what you read here before in this thread. There has no box to be in the cable. A good data cable and a flashing cable differ only in two things:
- Data is sent/received through pins 6 and 7 (usual data cable: pins 4 and 5)
- There is 5V+ on pin 9 (to set the phone in service mode)
Everything else is the same. All cables need a transceiver that coverts the data signals from the serial port into data signals that can be read by the phone. Some cables have these parts (transceiver and some capacitors) in a little box while most have the parts in the plug. That's why the serial connector on the picture looks so big. Wiring schematics for flashing cables can be found on my website at http://www.e-zones.net/artikel5.php (you might be only able to understand the schematics and pin description since my site is written in german).
So don't worry, you'll probably get the right cable. If it really should be wrong, PM me and I'll give you a description how to make a service cable from a data cable. All you'd need is a soldering station.
