3g refers to the data transfer system, which is very fast.
There are only a few phones currently that use 3g, one of which is the Nokia 6680. As you say, 3G phones are great for video conferencing as they can transfer the video very fast.

If you don't need this feature, though, I would consider the
nokia N7710. Although not a 3g phone, it still has many
3g type features, such as streaming video, albeit at a slower data rate.

In My opinion the sound on the 7710 is far superior than all the nokia phones currently available in the market and also the screen clearity is awesome although its just 65536 colors.

Nokia 7710 is one of the most slowest phones ever made.. It has all this great features, but it's CPU completely sucks ass... When taking a pic, you hear the camera noise, and you think that the picture is taken, but no.. it takes several seconds, and by that time you've already pointed the phone somewhere else and the pic is just somethin blurry.. I am sure that the features of this Nokia are superb, but they are again stupid enough to put a really slow CPU in 7710, just as they did with 9300 and 9500.. Otherwise, I don't mind this Nokia at all..

I am still amazed that nokia put in a 150mhz processor in these 3 devices! The 9210i had the same processing power, for crying out loud.

people find it slow when web surfing or when several applications are open at once, otherwise the software is quite reactive
figures alone don't really give on a true appreciation of a phone's speed

That has nothing to do with the processor, but is simply the camera foucsing. I have a US$1,000 digital Canon SLR camera but I still have to hold the camera still when taking
pictures!

smiffyjiffy, call this one Sexy???? this is very ugly and damn slow!!!

The P910i is alot faster, better UI and compact.
Play in movie in whole screen size without any slow or troubles with RAM.

The 7710 is in my opinnion a big flaw.

Note that has nothing to do with the phone itself, but the network provider. That phone like many other Nokia phones is EDGE capable and of multislot class 10 (4+2, max 5). Only Nokia has that AFAIK (in many phones). Nobody beats that. YOu cant get any faster GSM phone.

I just read a review in Mobile-review about 7710 in russian.

http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-7710.shtml

I guess it will be translated soon in english too.
There is a constant comparison with P910.
They say the only good part of this unit is the screen.

Shortly:
- size & weight (~190g)
- use of two hands simultaneously
+ large screen, 65000 colours TFT
- no use without stylus
+ fast starting voice recorder
- MMC change not possible without opening back cover
- low productivity! Tested with JBenchmark, score only 51 points (scores for other smartfones: Motorola A780 - 539, Nokia 6630 - 246 points)
- slow response on "button" touch
- camera slow, takes 3-4 secs into memory, and~ 10 secs on MMC.
- picture quality worse than 6630 (one of worst cameras of this class)
+ video recording up to 1 hour
+ similar applications to 9300

In conlcusion they say that 7710 is "a dead-born product and the last ever of series 90, without rivals, but only because no other company would like to build such a product", "If you want a business class - buy 9300/9500, if you need a sensor screen - P910"

funny there are people complaining but this phone's speed cause I've read tons reviews and the general consensus seems to be that for a symbian phone it's among the best
