faca: Yeah, go to your dentist But anyway, I see your point that SE is charging so much for its SDK while Nokia and Siemens are giving theirs away for free.
But I don't agree that there will be a shortage of software releases to P800. Let's not forget the two great companies behind this phone, Sony and Ericsson! Both companies host talent programmers and designers and there will certainly be a lot of free and wonderful stuff released officially by both companies under the name of ! Agree?

Well, we just have to wait and se if got some guts to make it free.
I tested 7650 2days ago and the weight wasnīt a problem but it felt more like a cube......
Maby they are trying to score some points with nintendo
Have anybody seen any apps that works with p800?
Youīll get plenty of apps with the p800-cd in the box also, so i donīt think there is any reason to worry to much about it.
Maby someone can post the link to the P800 "manual" for me? (the one thet is 90 pages and in pdf)

Very interesting..I just donīt get why 7650 doesnīt support any kind of exchangable memory. Thatīs the only thing missing in this "perfect" phone.. |

I was thinking about the "banana-republic" design on 7650 and realized that the back of p800 looks great but itīs something missing in the front....
And then it suddenly struck me, why oh why (didnīt I take the blue pill ) didnīt they make the design like one concept phone from se a saw...
Iīll just go now and get a picture of it so you understand what Iīm talking about....

And below is the concept phone you are looking for, I guess? Code-name Pamela?

It is in silver and has a keypad like 7650.
It says SonyEricsson on the screen.
I really like it!

No problem for the pdf Ah, now I know which phone you mean. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of that phone. Instead, this 3G concept phone stumbled in my way. Enjoy!

I'll have to go with the P800.
The Nokia just seems unfinished, like a design study or something.

I read way back in this topic that you can use .wav as ringtones. I read this in the whitepaper too, but it doesn`t say if u can use .wav with voices. In theory you could just rip a .wav from a cd and use that as a ringtone? Am i missing something? Anyways... am working at a major elecronicswarehouse here in norway and will order this little miracle as soon it hits the country. I was also a bit sceptic at first knowing the p800 had no external memory, but now it is a complete phone with all the possibilities u can imagine.
Even read somewhere that someone had coded a application that is able to capture movies through the camera on the phone with resonably good fps. Looking forward to holding this baby in my hands..

The major flaw with the 7650 is that it only works on 900/1800 GSM networks. Nokia just loves to region out all their markets. Here's to SE for making tri-mode phones! Without them those hard core techies (like me) here in the usa would remain at the a$$ end of mobile tech.

7650 a perfect phone???? dual-band, small screen, heavier than P800, and it gets bigger when you open the slide? How can that be perfect?
With regards to using the P800 without the flip, haha, yes, I intend to just touch the screen (I will use a screen protector BTW) and carry a stylus with me. The keypad is just too ugly.
Apps built for OS7 UIQ will run on the P800. Since it is the latest OS from Symbian, apps are still in development. Porting 7650 apps to the P800 won't be that difficult, I heard there are some people already converting existing Symbian apps for the P800.
I prefer Sony's MS, over SD/MMC cards. Yes, I know only 16MBs are available. But, the 128 won't be too far away. Once the 256MB MS are out, the 128 Duos won't be far off... I'm willing to wait...besides, 16MB + 16MB Duo is a LOT better than Nokia's 4MB FIXED Memory.
I saw the original communicator that Ericsson showed... it's BIG, bigger than the P800...about the size of an iPaq, no camera, and a smaller screen (160x120 only)
Although, I do admit that the p800 is fat... I would've liked to see a 'no-camera' version which was thinner. |

Now, THAT is the communicator I wanted SE to make. Only problems I saw with it, was that it HAD to be made out of metal (magnesium or other similar metals) for it to be durable and still be lightweight and slim. Although, there's only so much you can do with a joystick and 10-digit kepad.... This might be their successor to the T68i! As for the P800, would be nice to see it cased in silver metal, thinner, and sport an MPEG4 video recording function. |
