Hi

I've found out how to resolve this 7650 problem.

You have to disable the Windows XP infrared port.

Click Start, Control Panel, Adminastration Tools, Services

Once in 'Services' select Local (on the right hand side of the Admin Window) and then scroll through the right hand side of the window until you see: infrared port (or something similar)
Right click 'infrared port' and 'Stop' the device, then click through the tabs until you see a drop down box with the word 'Automatic', this should relate to the 'Start up' of the infrared port. Change this 'Automatic' to 'Disable'.
Once this is disabled, make sure your firewall can accept ALL communications of the nokia exe files (C:\Program Files\Nokia\).
You shouldn't need to reboot and the problems I found were:
1) Connection to the data suite was very very slow, about 3-5mins
2) Naming your devise may not work the first time, you may need to name your device 2 or 3 times before the data suite recognises the phone.
3) The first back up takes about 5-8 mins

Hope this helps.

jon_7650_problem hi and thank you for your advice.

I've checked the Windows Services and my "Infrared Monitors" start-up type is 'Automatic'.

I want to say that i don't use 'PC Suite for Nokia 7650'. I am just using the 'nokia7650Irda.inf' driver but wont works (the connection hang up as described in earlier posts..)

I can send files to the PC and to the phone by infrared without any extra software..

What modem driver do you use Jon?

Dude, though i haven't used the 7650 as an ir modem, i have used the 3650, 3660 and 6600. In each of the above, i never had such a problem. So i guess its time to gracefully retire your trusty old 7650.

The modem driver I use is straight from the nokia 7650 web page, I haven't needed to use it so I don't know if that works or not.

Sorry mate

I'll try and get on-line with my 7650 tonight and let you know if I am sucessful.

Have you changed the infrared modem settings on your PC to state: 38400 and not 115200?
This is a problem that has been in quite a few forums, the connections don't match and the phone can not manage the 115200 speed.

@jon_7650_problem my IR (doogle) support up to 4mbps. But if i let it to 4mbps i cannot cummunicate with 7650. So i let it down to 115200. I havent tried to put it 38400.. Are you talking about the infrared device driver speed isn't it? I will try later (now i cannot...). Thanks

@DSF: I think this 38400bps setting will solve your problem, i remember reading about it somewhere on hofo a while back.

@govigov my infrared is: SigmaTel USB-IrDA Doogle. For your K500 you don't need to set the speed. You just need the K500 IR modem drivers. If your infrared is not defective it should work
