As discussed in earlier threads the manufacturers and providers work differently here in the US. It's not the stores fault that they don't have new models. To start off with, SonyEricsson waits with launching new models in the US until all bugs have been fixed and when the providers can give 100% support.

Bullshit. I bought a T610 as a backup about 2 months ago and it still has serious Bluetooth issues in addition to other, less problematic bugs.

Europe spent a whole lot money on their 3G network. US providers are more cautious and tries to avoid getting in deep debt before launching 3G. However, on the other hand, non-GSM providers do have 3G up and running for quite some time now.

There are two 3G networks operational in the US, and both have been in place for about 6 months now. AT&T Wireless has a UTMS network running in 6 US markets, and Verizon Wireless has a EV-DO network in 14 markets. Neither network has been running for "quite some time".

Your T610 bluetooth might be faulty. Whatever the case is, you can can support from your provider.
Sprint and Verizon have had their 3G networks running since year 2002.

It could in part be solved if the handset makers started going quad band alot more than they are now. At least then people would have the choice of travelling with a little more ease. "Tri Band" only goes so far to ease that burden and really how hard can it be implement?
I wished the P910 had come in quad band but at least the US is getting its own version of that.
Does retail directly in the US? if not then it's probably the same situation as here in NZ, new models depend on the operators taking them up and releasing them. (Customised or not) Here we basically have Vodafoen or GSM, because of the various models the Z200 was never released here because it really wouldn't be a marker earner for them. Pity its a great little phone imo.
Don't expect a storeperson to have a clue though.
They don't here even though they usually have dummy models of the phone. Most of the time to they talk to support staff or websites and then just bark it back to you. you really have to go to a far more specialist store for people that have any idea. (Usually their business data stores etc)
@scots: (wheres my toast!) I'd suspect that if the US got behind the idea process more and that their focus of phone use is different to Europe/Elsewhere, they'd probably bring more ideas to different areas of the phone rather than over take. But then do any of the major comapnies have R&D depts based in both Europe and the US? |

@Gigs
I think SE do and I agree with you regarding bringing more ideas to the table. The U.S. needs to find its own angle, jus as Europe and Asia have
P.S. You can have French toast.

Are you kidding? Microsoft bastardizes standards on a regular basis.

it is very simple. Average American, doesnt want new tech. Noone cares about MMS, colors etc. Rules are simple, something that works all the time, and it has to be cheap. Who cares about p910, when you can get nokia 33xx for free. Here we are shopping for 1000 whenever minutes deals, and then just grab phone that comes with the service. How else do you explain all those lovely nokia 5100. Now why are we pushing our networs in Iraq when all countries in 10,000 miles radius have GSM i have no clue, ask Bush.

Well, the providers might not be pushing high end SE and Nokia phones. However, Samsung has a big market of higher end phones here and T-Mobile is now pushing the COOOOOOOOOOOOL new Blackberry phone I just must have......as well as other PDA phones.
It is not only in the USA that Nokia 3-series has been a best seller.....they have been among the top sellers in Europe too for several years now just because they are cheap, reliable and widely accessible.

Just for your information. Cingular is now selling the SE S710 so the US providers aren't that behind anymore.
