Virus via text message or a prank? |

Ok this is getting weird now...this happened to more than one person, right? Did it mess up everyone's phone or just this one person? If it just happened to that one guy then it could be a coincidence, but that's very strange that he can't delete that SMS. Can he delete other SMS? |

Yes he can. I had always thought that viruses don't spread through text messages. But this is wierd stuff! I even called up my operator and they said there was no such sms sent by any of their subscriber nor that of any other operator.

I would think that the closest u could get to a virus through SMS would be if ur service provider or an anon party sent new settings to ur phone over the air, which most SE phones support. This could result in weird changes to the operation of phone. This would not be a virus thou, and would be easily fixed.

That's just weird, I've never heard anything like that. It's definitely not a virus because it doesn't spread, but if someone did in fact alter your phone over the air that's a bit scary. @icefusion - I believe the current market prices for s700 are around $675-$750 in the US and somewhere around 350-400GBP in Europe. |

In theory it is possible to get viruses on mobile phones. If you check websites such as McAfee, there is actually info on mobile phone viruses, however, to date, they've all been hoaxes. (Lets hope it stays that way.)
Im not sure how a virus could possibly be sent in a text message, as all these contain are text, however, now with MMS it may be possible, also through GPRS...
Who knows

This was the message: "I have taken control of your phone..... Enjoy your ride..... Jacking begins in 5 mins...... FROM JACKAR" The second message was: " Retrieving your info AUC-09#1869BAR90081CD*# Thank you rahul.a (#airtel) From JACKAR" rahul is my real name and airtel is my service provider. The name rahul was stored in my phones contact list.

it must be a sw issue... anyway.. i dont think the message can be clever enuf to read ifo from your phone... old 3310,3330 and 315 had a restarter virus.. i have it my 230 now so as to send to friends.. the message once recieved canot be opened and the phone restarts... the option is to put your sim in another phone and delete it.. you cannot do so in a 230... the message is stored in phone memory rather than sim.. if you get the option of save on sim.. then you can change sims and delete the message..(considering that is the issue...) else try a master reset.... then try to access the service menu and c if the error log has increased.... did you try taking it to centre??
P.S. if anybody needs the restater virus that works with 3310/.3330/3315.. pm me and i will send it to you... |

The recent - CARIBE virus can be transmitted thru:
1. Bluetooth
2. Infra Red
3. SMS
4. MMS
In order to be safe, just don't open the details, just 'delete' it at once !
