Some people have suggested that the battery in the K700 is inferior compared to the one used in the T610 (T610 used a Li-Polymer while the K700 uses the not so great Li-Ion). I purchased a desktop charger and spare battery from eBay. The battery was a Li-Poly battery. I was very happy, I thought at least I would have good life from the phone but I can confidently say there is not really any difference, the K700 still drains the battery like a vampire drains blood!
So in short, having a 770mah Li-Poly battery does not inmprove the battery life over the Li-ion supplied! |

Upgrading the firmware may or may not reduce the power consumption, I don't know, but I don't think that it could make a very big impact, unless there are very seriuos design flaws in the sw, such that infinite loops or not turning off the display light is the result of the software error. The specs says standby time for about 300 hours, but who would leave their new K700 untouched but switched on for 12,5 days? The talktime, 8 hours, is a more realistic value for how long time the battery lasts.
BTW: my phone came with R2A, and I haven't upgraded the sw yet. What are the differences? So far, I have discovered two bugs: It's not possible to remove items from a group list in the phonebook, and the phone lock mode "automatic" does not work, it prompts for the phone lock code every time I switch on the phone. Are these problems solved in the latest FW version? |

I bought a spare battery and desktop charger off Ebay for £8 inc. delivery here.
The battery that came, although it looked like a genuine SE, I suspect is a fake. It also claims to be a Li-Pol battery, and so far it appears to last longer than the genuine Li-ion battery!

People should know that almost every function of the phone (games, radio, gprs, sms, mms, mp3 ...) is considered as talking time.

Let's cut to the chase. Sony Ericsson phones have not performed well reception-wise since the company started using internal antennas. That has been fixed. The K700i performed equally well for me on the US 1900Mhz band and the European 900Mhz band, being the equal of the Nokia 7610 that I have been using of late. Bravo Sony Ericsson.
But before you rally the troops for the party, we have a problem, Houston. The K700i has appalling battery life. As best I can tell, the new display, as I mentioned earlier, eats up battery power like a black hole. The printed claims of 300 hours of standby time and 8 hours of talk time are complete dreams. That kind of performance is from the realm of fiction writers. I believe the typical user will be forced to charge their phone, at minimum, every other day. Make heavy use of Bluetooth? Play games during the morning commute? Then figure on adding "charge phone" to your list of things to do nightly before you go to bed, right after "brush teeth" and before "close eyes." Sony Ericsson has told me that they are working on firmware revisions that they hope will improve that situation. We'll see, I suppose.
[A quick test revealed 3h 40m of talk time on a fresh charge when done in a single call with no interaction with the phone - a best case scenario. The backlight never fully went off, which I would consider a bug. 3:40 is not bad when compared to many other phones, but the problem really is standby time. Interaction with the phone just reduces the battery power at too great a rate. I did manage to get 87 hours of standby time in a test with Bluetooth on, but only with the phone left unused at all. I probably hit a key a dozen or so times to turn on the display to see the battery indicator, so the display was barely used, but that was it. Turning Bluetooth off and rerunning the test netted over 120 hours of standby before I had to pack the phone for a trip overseas. It appears that a large part of the problem in the battery life is the battery indicator. It goes red far before the phone is ready to die. Either way, we are still nowhere near the 300 hours of standby SE claimed for the K700i. Newly released firmware is supposed to fix this problem, and I will test it in a few weeks when I am back in the US. -editor]

You can set a lock code on the phone so that it prompts for this code if the SIM card is replaced. However, it does not seem to work on my fw version. Instead, it behaves exacly as in "on" mode, i.t. the phone prompts for the lock code every time the phone is turned on. Note that the phone lock code is NOT the SIM PIN code. |

Well said. I get the point of the others aswell, but a stronger batt would solve ebody's problem.

I bought my k700i in Dubai and it came with a (genuine) Li-Polimer 700 mah SE battery.But I have the same problem with the battery and the battery meter(FW R2A041) |

i have R2A041 3 weeks for now..and 700 mA Li-Ion..and after every charging battery becomes better and better-it must pass maybe 10 or 20 charging to be better and maybe for 2 months it will be on a top.but sometime people dont use battery and charging on the way that they must be used so battery life becomes shortly..battery has few raw of cells..every cell has own space for use..it could be possible that your phone sometime was on high temperature, or low or maybe you hit something with it, maybe u always full empty your mobile until it is dead(which is NOT good for Li-Ion batteries)-and that are some reasons why your battery can lose some of space of its cells.-u can charging it but it will never pull all energy..if your battery is not good, realy not good, u must shock your battery and maybe it will be better or dead forever(that can do some local masters for unlocking phones) or u alone..----but i am not saying that battery of k700i is good..it is 2 times poor than t610 and 4 times than t68..--------------------------------------------------------------------AND maybe the main reason of badly battery is that last batteries of t68 and t610 was overheating in charging and they was became a little bombs(it was problem of Li-Polymer batteries and of some Li-Ion when cells into bateries pull energy more than its limit....but now we can talk about curents(I), about W, R, ..about chargers,..material of batt..and so..)..
