it depends.
Austenitic stainless is non-magnetic.
Martensitic stainless is magnetic.
austenitic is more common.
what i'd really like to see is those guys try to get on a commercial aeroplane.

to anyone who finds those images disgusting, do you live in a city?
i mean, i would have to think they are attractive next to the everyday appearance of a sky-rat (pigeon for ya county folk) with it's guts turned inside out on the sidewalk or in the middle of the street..
but then again.. i used to have several piercings, and i do have a tattoo on my face.. so i guess i may be more 'desensitized' to the sort... but honestly... even you people who have lived sheltered lives must have seen some things in life that were actually 'sick', and not just 'extreme'.
like crazy things growing on food products in your very own refridgerator, or that slimey mold inside of most peoples toilet bowls.... like someone throwing up violently onto you or someone else..
all i am saying is...... before you cast your judgement upon things, think about what you are saying..... compared to things you encounter in your everyday lives, are these temporary partings of the skin to allow for foriegn objects to pass through really that disgusting? i mean, honestly.. what does seeing holes in someones body have to do with food?? and why would it make you lose your appetite?
dave
edit - ps. most piercing jewelry is indeed surgical stainless steel and none that i ever had was magnetic..

Woah. Hold on there matey.
1-yes I do live in a Town/city (the famous potteries area of Stoke On Trent) where there are more pigeons than people (if you can call some of them people)
2-no I'm not against piercings or tatoos whatsoever having a lot of them myself. Its just that it can go way too far to the point when people dont know when to stop and it ends up lookind stupid or in some cases perminantly disfiguring them.
I mean come on pal. You really think someone like me who has a pierced tongue, throat, gums, spine/back, eyebrow & others as well as 7 tatoos would be really offended ? I really dont think so. I actually ended up not eating and went out for a couple of drinks instead (to which I've just got home).
I just think some people really take things way too far and possibly cause more harm than good to themselves.

and all i am saying is that is a harm to someone's appearance really that bad of a thing? if you are caught up in the physical world then yes it is... if not, destroying ones face with piercings is very similar to permanent makeup... opposing sides of a spectrum perhaps, but in the end it is a change in the physical appearance of oneself that to some people looks pleasant and to others it looks 'disgusting'.....
judgement is a harsh thing, and i am not religious, but would have to agree that people should leaving the judging of other people to a higher being....
again, i have a tattoo on my face... so some people say 'ooohh eww, thats nasty' about the way i look.. i gotta say, it is not for those people to judge, and i don't particularly care how i look to people like that.. and when they ask, 'why would you permanently destroy your face like that?' i simply reply 'permanent depends upon how you look at life'...........
this body is indeed temporary, who is anyone else to judge what we do with it whilst we occupy it..
