i did say it depended how much stuff you had. but really, i meant it is a useful as a transfer device to backup somewhere else if you can't get a network connection.

@boyi - many are saying that many programs/softwares are not much compatible to the Windows XP Operating System, very delicate/sensitive at times. So many also are using the old Windows 98 Special Edition Operating System, very reliable when truly needed . . .

Win 2000 is also fairly robust.

@boyi

Your problems started when you tried to boot XP, although there were memory problems (AFAIK you said that the memory test stopped a 6xxx Kb).

Probably to memory modules that are damaged and/or not enough power to feed all your components.

Once I had a HD that broke 'cause my power supply was too low (230W) for all the components i had installed (all four IDE connections being used 2 HD's and 2 CD drives).
So i bought a new HD Drive and a new power supply (300W).

I couldn't get if you reinstalled XP.
If you did, did you format the drive when reinstalling it?
If you created a user with same same name that you had, all the files that were in "X:\Documents and Settings\[user]\My Documents\..." probably were overwritten (can't confirm this).

But if all that stuff was in another place and you didn't format the drive, it should still be there.

For installed programs, that another issue, they are in the drive, but they aren't "really" installed, because the XP registry is clean, and so it doens't know that the programs are there. [addsig]

Hmm,i found a way of getting into the system restore
So i restored it back to the 12 dec, and, wey hey! all is good again
Its like going back in time, anyway,as soon as it got back to normal i had a mcafee pop up msg warning of the Sobig virus

And as im writing this i think some twat is trying something cus zonealarm just alerted me with this!

ZoneAlarm Pro prevented a remote computer from connecting to port 21 on your computer. This connection attempt was probably a port scan trying to find unprotected FTP (File Transfer Protocol) servers. To learn more about port scans, see the Details tab.

Can you believe it! Thats my port to wap41 that i use with my wapsite!
Maybe its time for a change of host!
If nobody wants it.. put it on eBay.
