Thanks for the comments, anyway I think there is no need to maintain 2 version of firmware, since both firmware will be same, just the procedure to flash is little bit difference, and this done by EMMA dongle that reside on every SE service point computer, so technician not doing anything for selection of software part that will be flashed on phone.

I'm not sure WAP 2.0 will be implemented on 68m, since one our friend (Elgato) already using 68i firmware, but he looks like doesn't have WAP 2.0 on his 68m, this because he cannot open correctly WAP 2.0 site like Christersson xhtml pages.

And SE not wrong to tell that both phone will be identical, since they said in "MMS upgrade" context, not "WAP upgrade" context, also like or not SE should mention WAP 2.0 part on their FAQ about T68m conversion if they will put WAP 2.0 on converted version T68m.

Cheers.

Yes Juming you may be rigth...but on the other hand the lab updated sw is probably not the same as the SP updated sw will be. The r380s upgrades to a r380e after a flash of the upgrade program and then you install the r380e phone and application sw in the phone (previusly r380s). There is still r380s sw available on emma but only for not upgraded phones. Once upgraded to r380e you need to update with the r380e sw.

Cheers

I'm not fully aware of the tecnical side of this,..but CAN wap be upgraded by a software-flash ALONE ?
Wouldnt it need some sort of hardware change ?

I dont really know about this,..but that could be the explanation for not getting wap 2.0 on the T68m.

I'm actually also wondering about the GPRS-part. Can timeslots be upgraded by software-flash alone ?

I'm not that much into these specific tech-parts,..thats why I'm asking about this

This is what SE faq say!!

What are the hardware differences?
Only design and color

Will there be differences in memory size between a T68i/ie and a converted T68?
No, they will have exactly the same functionality and the same memory size.

Does ElGato have the "official" release??....I mean how could he since it's not released yet. Maybe he has some kind of developer release, right??

For WAP, only from version 1.0 to 1.1 need hardware specific update, since it's has different approach (1.0 using SMS as bearer, and 1.1 using Data or CSD to access).

For 1.2.1 it's still can using CSD, in case GPRS not available, so about WAP 2.0 I think.

For timeslot, if the hardware design allow handling timeslot using software parameters, then it's possible, but not all phone using this approach, what I know Siemens using this approach, so someone said that with only upgrade software, Siemens ME45 can handling 8 timeslot simultaneously !

About Elgato, he use R2B025 which available for T68i injected to his T68m, so since R2B025 has WAP 2.0, then we ask him to test his phone to access Christersson WAP 2.0 site, but unfortunately it's not shown correctly, so we start to doubt WAP 2.0 avail for T68m.

He got unofficial, but since I see the software version, then we can conclude that he is using T68i software on his T68m, now, if that possible (make only 1 software version for both phone) then his T68m should be can browse WAP 2.0 site correctly, but since the fact is no, so, there is 2 possibility:
1. There will be 2 version of difference firmware for T68m and T68i
2. There is only 1 version of firmware for both of phone, but actually it's can be divided to 2 part, one is for full feature flash, and if T68m connected to machine, only partial flashing is done, leaving the WAP section unflashed.

Any other comment ?

FYI: There is 2 different firmware available right now, T68m with R2D005 and T68i with R2B025.

DA_WIZ > I know that,..but that doesnt mean that its right,...we all know that by now ! Both ServicePoints and SE themselves have come with different answers to what exactly will be in the upgrade, and also "when" it will come.

For instance, Per Alksten from SE stated that there will still be a difference in the battery-times, AFTER the upgrade. So the two phones are in fact not exactly alike in all aspects.

And WAP is not mentioned in the features you gain, once upgraded.
IF its a software-issue it should be stated among the other SW-features listed.

Hi!
Interesting to see that the T68i-owners doesn't think the phone will have WAP 2.0 after the convertion, BUT the T68m-owners believes that it will....

Wishfull thinking???

I have a T68m so I believe that it will have WAP 2.0

Just tried to reach www.christersson.org/xhtml with my T68m but I couldn't get access at all. "Something wrong with the site you tried to access". I have no problems to access the ordinary christersson.org site.

ElGato got access with his converted phone but he could't download from the site. Maybe he actually has WAP 2.0, and there are other reasons that he can't download from the site.(Network maybe?)

Telesaint > I know,..I just tried it too

Ervil > hehe,..no its not wishful thinking,..I have a T68m too, and I'm gonna get that upgraded too,..and surely I hope that the wap 2.0 will also be in that upgrade. Its better than the wap 1.2.1.

Well icould be that el gatos MMS T68m is only a beta tester version and doesnt have the full features,in 2-3 weeks the upgrade will be complete so it looks like el gatos doesnt have the wap version 2.0 but that doesnt mean that our MMS T68m wont!!!!

john74> I have the real version, no beta.
The software has been ready for quite a while, it's just that SE doesn't know really how they should release it.
They have a preliminary week (week 20), but I don't think they have decided if the upgrade should be free or come with some expence.
The guy who got me the new software told me it had been ready for quite a while, what is taking time is that there is many things to go through before releasing the software.
But most likely the software will be free, he said. So don't start discussing now that it will cost money, it's not certain yet. And with all probability it will be free.
(note. this is not the only thing that delays the software, but there where a whole bunch of problems they had to solve before releasing the software)

I don't know about wap yet.. I can get into the christensson site (that's good right!?), with Mickes links and stuff..
I can click the links. the "news" link works, but melody and ems and those doesn't. I just get a blank page with "Mickes links melodies" or something... maybe it's just a temporary fault.
There are new menues in wap.
The old software version didn't have options for cookies and so on, what i know of.
Then, when on esato wap page, when you wanna save a pic, you can't press yes anymore.
You have to go into the menu, go some steps down and find "save picture".. this took me some time to find out (costed me some extra money too! )

Isn't there another way of checking the wap version?
You said that wap 2.0 could show jpeg pics. Is there a site with some jpeg pictues?

On esatowap homepage, the ericssont68 link is coloured, is this a jpeg picture? Or can "old" wap 1.2.1 show this picture too?
