"33 operators will deploy EDGE in Americas with 100 million subscribers with first commercial launches before the end of this year (source: UMTS Forum)"

CSL have a working EDGE network in Asia (it started in September). Source: http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Sept2003/5827.htm

As do Telefonica Movil Chile in Latin America.

Bite, a Lithuanian operator, are waiting to get their EDGE up and running as well.

By 2007, EDGE users reach 331 million with 167 million users in Europe and 109 million in Americas (source: ARC Group 2002).

That is operator dependant. My operator, Radiolinja, gives me unlimited GPRS data transfer (no charge by minute or kb) between 18:00 and 06:00 for 10€/month. I think it's a pretty good deal.

@flyin finn

Good for you! In my country, WiFi is more feasible. The two major networks charge per kb... we don't have a choice.

Hey boysaint- SE phones are easier to bluejack than Nokia phones- at least Nokia's need you to confirm recieving an item (eg contact). The SE phones just take it. Once again, SE crumbles in a heap...

WiFi is not exactly the way to achieve the high bitrates in the mobile world. Yes, it's great in small limited area standing still where you have the coverage. Mobile means movement, so people on the move in middle of nowhere don't have much use for WiFi. EDGE, and maybe later also WCDMA, is the choice for the them to achieve high bitrates. This doesn't mean that I don't want a WiFi for my mobile as an alternative connection to the network.

Edge is just 3G-light.

I don't see any need for it, by the time the EDGE will get implemented on a broad basis (like someone wrote earlier, in 2007) EDGE will be to 3G what NMT is to GSM.

It looks that Nokia is outta ideas to release such a f*cked up design for this EDGE piece of nothing, besides, EDGE is not on right now in any place yet, so no point in overhyping over this phone in any case!

One more thing, SE is working on a EDGE model as well (planned to be launched around the same time as the Nokia), no one tell me 'oh its just one model whilst Nokia has alot of EDGE phones around'......okay, the same Nokia drill, THEY ARE ALL THE F*CKING SAME PHONES!!!

THANX!

Oh yes, EDGE is on in a few places. Finland, US (in some parts), Asia (in some parts)...
You dont need a separate subscription to use EDGE. Normal GPRS subscription is enough. You can benefit from GSM/GPRS roaming. Well, its use is entirely transparent to the user (the only thing the user can notice is faster data transfer). And so on. The backbone is up and has been running for many years already.

For WCDMA that's a different story. It may work fine in 2 years... I'm optimistic.

Also, with your logic:
P900 and P800 are the same phones in a different shell.
T630 and T610 are the same phones in a different shell.
The list goes on and on and on and on.
Well, all GSM phones are the same arent they?

You might not have gotten the point of having different phones with similar functionality.

And some Nokia EDGE MS are already on the market.
has not even released any EDGE phone yet... It may come but at the moment: Zero!

dont have it.
They dont even have any 3G phone out, while you would argue there are sooo many 3G nets around.

have lost the track... (assuming they would have got it at some point...)

Bravo Super G! I agree.

Devil is in SE loving denial.

If a good product from Nokia comes out (which is an extremely frequent event), then acknowledge it.

I think hury and super g are in nokia denial,
-like for instance hurny said that se phones always recieve?!?! you obviously don't have a bluetooth se phone if you say that kinda bullshit!!!
-se has a 3g phone-z1010. you can try it in zagreb where is currently a tech showroom, while nokia ha an extreme ugly 6650 that has a poor screen, only one camera and only 8mb memory!! and ofcourse the small 7600 that looks like a vibrator for women!!! and has the same screen as the t630, i mean that's just insane from them, while se ha z1010 which isn't that big and has so many features that nokia could be ashame that they put out 6650 and 7600!!
- you nokia fans say it's ok if it has a 4k screen if it has edge!! that's just bull again, you just look at the whitepapers all the time and say this bullshit things!!! I would rather have a nokia with a decent screen and without edge!!
-you are in ful denial you nokia fans , nokia puts edge in their phones and you are all happy and you say that se has is losing track that it doesn't have good technology!!! for christ sake! put a p900 next to a 6600 and say that again and put a 7600 next to a z1010 and say that again and finally put this rubber condom that you call a nokia nect to a t630 and say that again and put your loved nokia 7250i next to a t610 and say that again!!!!

so fu***ng what if nokia presents these phones they arne't out yet!!!
I bet 1 million bucks that se would have a better phone then this at that time!!!

P900 ppl
that's all I hv to say
and SX1
I hv yet to see one nokia better than the SX1
6600 u say?
bleh, it's completely bugged!
go to club-siemens
the dude who owns a SX1 (molna) clearly states how crappy the 6600 is (if my memory serves me right)
everyone has stated how crappy the 6600 is

so u guys hv fun with ur trying to find EDGE
10 nokias = 1 SE
in functionnality
name me one nokia that has more functions than a T610
and if u r gonna introduce the symbian phones, than compare em to the P900
Nobody is perfect, I am nobody, therefore I am perfect

Mmsman and fijbert are right.I aint no SE or Nokia fan but it is obvious that nokia is a cheap, mass product. In 2002, nokia lauched 32(thirty-two) phones ALL based on ONLY 4 platforms. This really means 4 models if u exclude the form factor..pathetic for the bigest gsm manufacturer. Just A TIP: to succesfully bluejack a Nokia-crap,send it messages as notes rather than contacts.A Nokia user will b slapped without him being able to accept/refuse the message.SE is 1 of the best;Nokia is just a cheap mass product
