@ Guys,
I believe all these categorization of the top 5 is mostly based on shipment volume. They don't bother the actual demand. For instance, Nokia can ship a 8XXX model say 100,000 set but in fact, the demand for it just only 15,000 set. Therefore the balance, local authority will sell it damn low margin price just to get rid of the stock... which often the local retailer are the one that suffers. Why? Again, the demand not equals to the supply... It is over supply. If someone (big 5) do an audit on Nokia, I believe they are losing out their profits... Even though they still claim they are making profits but the profits are very minimal compared with the projected profits on the 100,000 set.. which initially the Operation costs outdo the ptrofits gain... This same applies to the rest of handphone manufacturers. I believe, SE is playing on the safe side which is supplying according to the demand instead over supply as it will eat in their Operation cost. On the other hand, the national council for handphone maker should evaluate the measurement of being the top 5 using DD=SS instead of shipment.

In Africa, one of the fastest growing markets, all one sees are Nokias. SEs are rare, you will see more Ericssons than SEs. That is why I still stand out and shine with my T610 . SE need to market themselves more aggressively outside Europe becaue they have really great phones, better than that Finnish company which are more affordable.

Don't worry, the T650 will come and sell more than all of Nokia's phones together. Ain't that right, t610 owner?

I just can't believe my eyes !!! Here in Manila, it is very evident that NOKIA rules, however, I just cannot accept the 'fact' that the performance of Motorola and LG reigns supreme over that of Ericsson's on a global performance sales !!! Absolutely without any doubt that Ericsson comes only second to Nokia when it comes to sales in Manila with Samsung catching up on the third spot. I just hope that SE can make some improvements on their fones in the 'VERY' near future.

I agree with jojo...

Manila is definately nokia-central, but there a re a $#!tload of T610's popping up everywhere, along with P800 units. But most people who get a T610 sell it soon after becasue of one thing, and one thing alone: TXTing is slower than a 7250. They don't care about all the other features, all people here care about is that the texting is fast.

i feel like SE the "Apple Computer" of the mobile phone world.

Great products....but a small user base...

Plus they are painfully slow at releasing handsets....

Wish they would take a hint from the parent Sony....which seems like releases a new Clie everyweek...

I don't think sony is the parent of Sony-Ericsson. As far as mobile technology is concerned Ericsson is far more expierenced (btw Ericsson is still active as a seperate Mobile tech company, it's just not making handsets)
It's more like an equal-partnership, I do believe that SE works quite indepentently from Sony.

I'm nitty-picking I know

Well one must not forget that SE is a relatively young company. It's still building up, after all only recently they've announced that their sales are going up and they're heading for break-even.
So rushing out new models is not a wise thing to do, they need a couple of hits (like t68i and t610, without them SE could have had an early grave) to work themselves into the market. Once they're in, they can concentrate on expanding their product line.

And another, rather important, fact: being agressive, yes! BUT with caution. I'll explain this: If they just rush out new phones as fast as they can, you'll get the nokia-syndrome (a million different phones, with virtually no difference between them). SE needs to evaluate the market, and come out with a phone targetted correctly. If they release too many different phones, they make it harder to make profit on them (you need enough buyers).
Besides, when SE brings out a new model it's always great value for money, just because they tend to wait and pack a lot of features into one phone instead of releasing several "incomplete" phones. They are being cautious and thorough.
That is what I consider a very consumer-friendly approach, it was like this with Ericsson and I'm glad to see it's remained so with SE.

And what's better to protect Sony's name and rep than great value for money?

Cheers,
Dietbrand

This list is only about how manny phones each company is selling to the stores, not how manny phones actually being sold to people. So we have to wait to the companies realease their statistics about how manny people ho is buying their phones before we can take anny conclusions.
