OK! Fist the test ... after more than 12 hours (night) standby, only alarm was used:
stand by: 233h, talk: 8,33h
First time restart:
Directly after asking for PIN codes: battery monitor boosts up! (no GSM field found(!!!))
When start up completes: battery monitor drops down to the previous stage: now 239h, 8,33h!
After writing all this here, turn off & on again ...
Now only 222h, 8,33h before(!) turn off and ...
As always(!) directly after asking for PIN codes: battery monitor boosts up! (so now no GSM field). When the start up completes and both GSM & GPRS fields found (!) it is still here (at more power) and only after some seconds from start up complete (battery hours monitor software started ??!!) it drops again to:
207h, 8,33h (!)
and ... after one minute of stand by it is: 238h, 8,32h(!)
SO... a talk time is always about 8,33h, but stand by ranges between 207 & 239h ... SO NOTHING STRANGE HERE!!! As you know stand by time ALWAYS changes (IN ALL PHONES) because GSM/GPRS field's parameters are ALWAYS changing ... e.g. GSM-cell changes (even if you are not moving!!!) etc.
It is VERY DIFFICULT to write battery monitor software that monitors STAND BY & TALK times! For this reasons Nokia is not including this functions to their phones (stand by times will be changing always!), but Ericsson actually have BEST battery monitor software (according to other brands) that works very good (not 100% fine but very very good). So if your GSM field parameters chaneges (they are always changes A LOT after restart according to state before turn off because GSM-field searhing uses A LOT OF POWER and it almost never finds THE BEST (power saving) field firstly!) don't think it's ericsson error. It is your operator error that has NOT SO GOOD GSM-field coverage in this place (I also lost a lot of power after restart IN OTHER places like this where I'm now or when moving(!!!) at the same time!)
And never trust for all 100% to battery monitor (it is very hard to write 100% working battery monitor!) - it is good on ericsson phones, but not 100% good!
I always mentioned this bug (with old & new R2B soft) but I always was thinking it is battery monitor bug NOT BATTERY ITSELF!!! |

If you really lose 50 hrs every time you do that then after 4 or 5 times the battery should be completely flat. I tried it and it wasnt...
Actually, I think that the "drop" is more down to the way the phone calculates battery power.
Have you noticed that, when fully charged, the phone shows 50-100% full for about 1.5 days, but then the final 50% disappears in no time at all (like half a day)?
Switching it off then on again seems to give a more realistic view of the battery status.
I think that the phone calculates remaining battery life based on the actual battery status on power-up, but bases the calculation on usage while the phone is on...
Try this : if you have less that full charge, note the remaining time (my case - 185hrs), switch off the phone, then on again. Now check it again - mine says 162 Hrs. Leave the phone alone for 10 mins, then check again. Mine now says 153 Hrs. 10 minutes later and mine reads 162 Hrs again. Weird, eh? (s/w R2A)

..it's really a strange thing...
After my first try:
Before:
Stand by --> 258h
Talk time --> 5h 26m
After:
Stand by --> 133h
Talk time --> 3h 17m
I turned the phone off and one again for about 3 times.
Now it looks like this:
Stand by --> 98h
Talk time --> 2h 13m
even after 10 minutes...
I understand that it isn't easy to build a good Battery status monitoring software....but this is even bad!

I tried turning my T68i off for the first time since I bought it (a few weeks ago ) and indeed, I lost 25 hours when turning it back on...
but what the hell, who turnes his phone off anyway? |

When you turn the phone on, it draws extra power to actualy get "online-line"... and while its doing this, tha battery suffers... and the "battery-meter" shows what should be time-remaining _with the current power usage_
Try using WAP services... and check the battery when you're done. I had 223h left on on stand-by... but after WAP-ing a the stand-by time went down to 68h... a few minuttes later the stand by time was back to 222... I see no problems of this kind on my T68 (oldest software, waiting for the "i" upgrade)

i get this bug too... but think its the meter rather than the actual battery... usually after a few turn-offs (pun intended) and the phone shows 0h remaining i can easily get 8-15 hours standby out of it... |

You guys have realy strange problems if after restarting for 5-6 times you get 0h stand by time (empty battery)! Just restarted my phone 3 TIMES (I'm not moving, so staying at the same place) and my stand by time is always 206-207h after restart (and 207h was also before all 3 restarts!) and after first restart it was 207h exatly after restart AND EVEN 222h (so more power left!) one minute later!
Talk time was 4,09h before and after first restart & 3,51h after second & 3rd restart. I think these small changes due to battery monitor sofware (not battery itself) & due to power needed for registration in network & some power may be lost if after restart I was registered to another cell, that takes more power from my phone (EVERY CELL TAKES DIFFERENT POWERS AT THE SAME PHONE LOCATION AND YOU ALWAYS HAVE SOME CELLS (NOT ONE) IN BIG CITYES LIKE HELSINKI WHERE I'M NOW!!!)
And before battery monitor starting (when pressind volume button down it is no stand by & talk times displayed(!)) I always have much more power displayed in right bottom corner monitoring then before restarting & after the battery monitor started (I can see stand by / talk times when pressin volume button down) the monitor in right bottom coner always shows the same power left than before restart AT MY HOME where I'm testing phone NOW! Sometimes when I'm moving in the city I also mention that power drops for some hours (also on right bottom corner monitor) - think it is due to cell changings & battery monitor "bugs", but I will never lost ALL POWER after 5-6 restarts!!! If you have this bug (after 5-6 restarts you lost power completely) so it is very strange and should be the bug of your hardware ... I don't have this! |

And it is absolutely normal when using GPRS (WAP) you get 66-68h stand by time instead of 200-300h before GPRS was started & 200-300h again after GPRS was turned off, because GPRS takes a lot of power & battery monitor becames to display stand by time left if you will not turn off the GPRS! This is not problem & absolutely normal!
PS. Battery monitor actualy not so fast so you can see 66-68h also for some seconds after turning GPRS off!!! |

sad to say that SE's batt are sucky and EXPENSIVE!!! BST-14 cost US$105 here, after bargaining it still cost US$78. My phone usually only last for 2 days. However I believe that it is true to let the batt fully discharge then only recharge will you get a longer batt life and higher stanby time. Some might say that Lithium can be cahrged anytime but i doubt that. I have a 6510 before t68i and i listened to THAT advice and charge batt every night eventhout it is full bar. The batt usually can last for 5 days if use it normally but i am a heavy sms user so it only lasted for 3 days most. OK, 3 days is good enough then after using this method for 4 months.........batt start dropping real fast! batt start dropping after 1.5 days........fully charged before and never on at night...
But for my friend who has a t68m, he charge his batt only when it is fully discharged. well it also lasted for 2 days at most like i do now but his batt can last longer than usual after several charges. he told me that his phone can last for 5 days and a SE dealer told me that his can last for 4 days, not sure if there are bluffing but i havent seen my phone doing that yet!
my advice is that:
- fully discharge your phone then only recharge with phone off
- off your phone at night
- if you wanna leave it on, do not plug it into your charger
- download the temperature monitor and have a look at the power usage, you will see that when the lights are on, it suck up power like crazy
- hence, try not to on and off the lights so often. If can, dont use your light (i know this is impossible but just wanan tell it )
BTW, regarding the off and on thing, my phone has a boost when restart and in common the phone should indicated a longer batt abr if you off it for awhile.
P800 is very TEMPTING!~!~~ I want it! In fact im in love with it when I try the prototype |

Its very annoying that ........if I leave the phone on 24 hours a day...........I would normally get 5 days standby, and if I turn off at night, I would also get 5 days standby due to the power on drains battery.............has this been fix in the latest software???? |
