Vodafone Uk Gprs + Pop3 email setup? |

Just to let you know, I have just found out that BTCellnet have not provided an APN to allow connections outside of their WAP network. This means that it is not possible to connect to email or other IP addresses using the Cellnet.
I knew I should have gone with Vodafone .... hmmm
If anybody knows of any late breaking news or hears any different... could they please let me know. I have looked through a number of BT Cellnet technical documents and these all indicate their intention to implement the standard "Internet" APN........alas sometimne in the future.

Following the discovery that BT Cellnet could not provide outgoing IP access to the internet over GPRS, I was a little dismayed as regards the new contract I had signed up for. That was until I remembered that my wife is on Vodafone.
Sunday morning saw me making her breakfast and being generally nice (as always).
We have now swapped sim cards. A quick call to Vodafone set me up on Vodafone GPRS and I was away. Yes it all works Great!!
Cheers all!

The clue as said previously (For Vodafone users) is that it seems like you HAVE to have at least a GPRS1 account with them, the none-subscription GPRS service (Free one) does not allow pop3 email access.
I bet I can't get Vodafone to tell me this on the phone... |

The free Vodafone GPRS Plan will not work!
Hi,
if you still haven't got Email working over GPRS, it's probably because the GPRS plan your are on doesn't provide that feature. All you need to do is phone your service provider and upgrade your plan. In the case of Vodafone this is GPRS 1 and above. |

This is madness!
I have EVERYTHING working on my T68i - see other posts on this subject. It took me absolutley f*****g ages!!!
Anyway, having sorted it all - GPRS wap on UK vodafone, BTOpenworld and ntlworld POP3 email via GPRS on Vodafone too, and feeling pretty chuffed by the whole thing, I figured I set my wife's T39m up the same way.
What happens? wap is cool and works like it should. But when I try and connect using GPRS for email, I get the dreaded 'GPRS parameters not supported'! I'm using identical configurations (over and above those supplied by the WWW SE configurator).
What *is* going on?! Maybe I need an IP address for the APN 'internet'. Anyone have this?
B*****d thing!
Steven.

I am on the basic GPRS starter plan and have no problems accessing email with the built in client (with IMAP4 though). |

Best thing to do is use the sony ericsson configurator on the website, it sends you two messages and once done mine worked straight away. Better than messing with the settings yourself only to find "Finding Server" displayed forever and a day.
