Hi,
I have been trying to get my T68 set up to check my pop3 email over GPRS with Vodafone UK. I am totally bemused at this and have tried all the suggestions I can find on this board.
Has anyone got a simple step by step way of doing this???
Thanks.

I the same problems. You cannot use the email client for emails through GPRS if you are on price plan 1 as you need a now data account specificaly for email. It took me 3 weeks to get this information from them!

I have set up my E Mail using voda uk & works ok, have you tried using the actual IP address settings under the POP3 and SMTP e mail settings. I use bt internet and got these settings from BT. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have managed to set up my email on dial up gsm service, but ideally i would like to be able to access it through gprs for speed. I seems though that I would have to upgrade my account from the GPRS starter pack, so I may just stick with the dial up for email and stick with GPRS for web.

Hi folks,
Here's the UKVODA GPRS email setup, I got it from a local vodafone shop - they'll tell u the vizzavi setup but you can change it to another (i'm using a totalise account). I'm on a GPRS1 account & dont have any problems (well...loading's a bit slow!)
Start off by creating a new data account:
- In the CONNECT menu goto DATA COMM. select DATA ACCOUNTS then ADD ACCOUNT
- select GPRS data, and enter a name (say 'GPRS Email')
- input 'internet' (lowercase) for the APN
- input 'web' (again lowercase) for USER ID
- input 'web' (again lowercase) for password
then save and return to the main menu.
Here's the Vizzavi setup:
- Go to MESSAGES-OPTIONS-EMAIL-EDIT ACCOUNT-ADD NEW
- Enter an account name (anything - its only for identification)
- select CONNECT USING and GPRS EMAIL (or whatever name you gave the account in the Data accounts menu)
- enter the POP3 server name 62.213.128.80 for vizzavi (or whatever other you use, eg. i use mail.totalise.co.uk)
- the POP3 PORT should be set at 110
- enter your mailbox name (everything before @ in your email address)
- enter your password
- enter the SMTP server 62.213.128.92 for vizzavi (or use your own, eg. i use mail.totalise.co.uk)
- set the SMTP PORT to 25
- enter your whole email address in EMAIL ADDRESS
- enter your FROM NAME and SIGNATURE
Wehey! almost there!
Set your email account to default if you want to run just the one account, but you can use more than one:
- Go to MESSAGES, OPTIONS, EMAIL, SET ACCOUNT and highlight the appropriate account and select
And that should be it!
Let me know how you get along

Thats brilliant... I have just bought a T68 with a BTCellnet contract. Does anybody know the settings I need to connect through BTCellnet in the same way as is achieved above for Vodafone. I have tried using 'INTERNET' as the APN but it does not seem to like that (thought it was supposed to be a global standard ...hmm) Can connect ok to Genie WAP but cannot retrieve email. Have checked settings numerous times. Am also trying to connect IPAQ to internet through the T68 over GPRS and am having the same problem. My guess is that although I can gain access into the WAP gateway, I cannot gain 'Internet' access outside of this other than through WAP. I thought this was the purpose of the 'INTERNET' APN (as used by Vodafone), but I am obviusly missing something.
Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks

@Telboy_uk
Did not know that the APN was a global standard..
My settings (Telenor Norway) are:
apn "internet" used for email, PC internet connection
apn "wap" for WAP
apn "mms" for MMS

I can't get it working for my Vizzavi email or my other two ISP's. Says GPRS parameters not supported on all 3 connections.
Any further advice?? |

The trick that worked for me was to use the ip address instead of the normal dns of mail and smtp servers.

WOW! you all came back quick... Thanks for the input.
I can see that most people are using "Internet" as their APN for email and Web etc. I have tried this on my BT Cellnet GPRS connection and it does not work. Gives error "Wrong Access Point Name (APN)"
Have also tried using the raw IP addresses instead of the standard DNS identifier.
The APN that the T68 came configured with was WAP.GENIE.CO.UK. This has a username of 'geniewap' and a password of 'password'
Unfortunately whilst this allows WAP connections it does not allow you connections to IP other addresses (ie those for POP email or Standard Web Browsing using IPAQ).
Having tried 'Internet', I looked through some old BT Cellnet docs on the internet and found a proposal for an APN of 'open.genie.co.uk' which was defined as being specifically to allow open access to the internet as required. This would be exactly what I am lokking for ..... if it worked. When I tried it, it just produced the same error "Wrong Access Point Name (APN) Hmmm!
So I think I need the actual APN used for BT Cellnet access to Internet resources.
Has anybody here got a GPRS connection working using BTCellnet/Genie for use with POP mail and/or Internet IP usage.
If so, could you please list out your settings, including APN .. Username and password etc.
Thanks
