@Yoeppie

Thanks for the info. I recently bought a p800 and am absolutely thrilled with it. I use smiley faces all the time in IM and now I guess I can do the same with SMS messages. I don't always look at every option in every menu of the phone so I am glad someone posted this topic. Just my 2 cents

@ ChrisB
Re your 'PS. Does anyone know what Baseband chip and/or apps co-processor is in the P800?'

After a bit of digging, it tuns out that Sony Ericsson use one of the Texas Instruments OMAP processors. These arn't that great. All they are is a ARM 7 or 9 stuck next to a bit of TI DSP technology, for doing MPEG 4 and MP3. Thats why we can only play MP4 files at sub 10 FPS. And I doubht the OMAP has the grunt to encode MP4. Thus no video record functionality. Only Jpeg encode (Which is MUCH easier)
All this said. The phone still rocks.

It could just do with a little faster baseband.

Every day l'm shocked by peoples lack of knowledge about their P800. Do theese people just not bother with exploring the vast features of the phone? its almost like they only buy it because its avaliable not because of it'.s features. They dont even know basic stuff.

some people just have the money to buy high-end stuff, but not the time to explore the stuff they have. of course this aint to pertain anyone in particular.. it's just what i notice here locally.

JaJa
i never went into that menu before, i only have this machine 3 months and it seems like i have just used a small percentage of its functions. must mess around some more. the animations section is cool too. pitty none of my mates have a P800 to send these pics to.

masseur
i was using the :6 :7 :8 as a random example of what i might try to put in to see if i could get the smileys. i didnt know there was a menu to get to them directly, i just thought it would be a "suck it and see" session of putting different characters in after work but thanks to JaJa i dont have to spend all day randomly trying.

there is a smiley that appears on the T68/T68i/T300/t610, that doesnt appear on the P800... its the "kiss" one (:-*). This does NOT appear in the insert symbol menu of the T68i or newer phones (it was on the T68), but you can get it by typing :-* on the phone.

Pity, coz my GF liked to send kisses to me in SMS. but then i point out the devil one ,and she now sends that.. sayign its more appropriate anyway!
