The P800 is not classified as a smartphone for insurance purposes with Orange Care. The cover applies to it in just the same way it would any other phone. As of March 1st, all upgrading Orange customers who previously had 12 months free inclusive Care, have it no more. Much the same as Care is not included for new customers subscribing after October 1st.
No, they are not breaking the law. Please, be serious, stupid as some of their CSRs may be, do you not think that their legal department ight just have that covered. Care was never a contractual right - Orange giveth and now they taketh away.
However, Orange often give you the option to take 'Emergency Care' for a one-off premium of £30 and a 12-month subscription to Care, even after you have reported damage. Definitely worthwhile if it's a P800, obviously!
Good luck with your respective claims, parvski and evoke, but knowing Orange, I'd rather you than me!
Dave

@dave_uk i'm not claiming all i was concerned about is wether or not i was covered.. tbh from all the responses so far im still not sure what everyone is talking about.
as far as im concerned i have taken out insurance in good faith and have a certificate so if i need to claim then they cant argue with me

According to the bloke I spoke to lastnight the P800 is not covered cos it is a smartphone.
But All I want is a new phone for free, but I am cheesed with Orange cos they did not make it clear about the insurance (or lack of).

Don't get me wrong, mate, I didn't think you were - was just trying to give ppl accurate info to help, and to prevent ppl being fobbed off by Orange, as they have been doing for years!
If they sold you Care on a P800 specifically, and not just that it carried over from an upgrade, I'm sure you're covered and they'll replace it. If not, seems you've got a pretty good case.

I managed to get my money back !!! (well some of it)
I spent maybe 3 hours on the phone, bouncing from one "helpful" person to the next, I even got cut off a couple of times too
Basically I was meant to pay £85 + vat (makes it £100) for emergency insurance and then paying the monthly £3 (I think it is).
I managed to finally get through to an understanding person and I explained my situation to them again and explained to them that I pay a small fortune and that other companies would love my business and it is not as if we don't have a choice...and they finally agreed to give me back £50
I reluctantly accepted, I was happy to get that cos I could not be bothered arguing anymore.

When i upgraded with orange they stated that it is not covered by the 'free care' but as i had been with them for many years i could buy care for £2.50 a month.. i said yes please..
The phone arrived the following day and all was ok..
about a month later the phone has gone wrong, orange say it is dead .. guess what.. the gits say i have no insurance, who ever put the insurance on my account took it off the same day!
i am now in a battle with them stating that insurance was not canceled with my permission and that i should not suffer from an error at their end.. but do they listen?? NO..
the are offering emergency insurance at £100, i have told them to stuff it, and that i am going to take the matter further as i am fecked off with large companies thinking they can do as the like..
so if any of you have requested the insurance.. before making a claim.. make sure it is actually on your account!! |

i just upgraded to an orange p800 yesterday. the insurance thing was explained to me by a v helpful guy in the orange shop. Basically if u r on a old tarriff (like me) where orange care is free for the first 12 months then u r not covered with the p800. BUT if you pay for the orange care at £5 a month (though as i have been with them ages they r only charging me £2.50 a month) then you are covered. Its as simple as that...i hope!!! |

bloomp..
i asked for the cover at £2.50.. they put it on my account.. then for some reson took it off the same day.. hence they say i am not covered
this is why i say before attempting to make a claim ensure you do ACTUALLY have cover.. as in my case requesting and getting are 2 different things! |

yes that is crap of them. It is marked on my service agreement and will check my next bill too! thanks for the warning! the only reason i am getting rid of my p800 that i bought sim free in jan and upgraded my old t68i to an orange p800 is for the orange care, which despite this thread, is easily the best insurance out there. for £2.50 a month i will get a new p800 next day if i lose it, break it, gets stolen etc |
