Gutted, my screen cracked!! |

I have only had my phone for 2 weeks, and when I reached in my pocket to make a call, I noticed my screen was cracked, it seems I must have knocked it and the * key pushed the screen a bit too hard.
I thought no worries, Orange will swap it since it is insured.
I gave them a call only to be told that it was infact not insured as Smartphones are not covered by the normal phone insuranec, if I want to insure it then it is going to cost £85.....gutted!!!
At least Orange could have told me when I upgraded that this is the case.
Gutted gutted gutted

If Orange didn't mention anything regarding different insurance for Smartphones, then they are breaking the law for not informing customers specific information regarding each individual phone.

I am telling you straight up.
I thought I was covered....I had a business 1000 talkplan...basically I was paying through the nose
And lastnight when i spoke to Orange to report the damage and get a new phone the guy told me that smartphones are under a different insurance bracket and are not insured as a regular phone.
evoke, mate, if I were you, I would phone orange right away and sort your insurance out....you don't wanna be stung like I was
ardman_ryan, are you serious about they could be breaking the law? Because I was not told about any insurance change...everytime I have upgraded in the past the insurance is also re-started and I assumed that it would be the same with my P800 again.
If they are breaking the law, what can I do, what compensation should I seek? (besides getting the new phone for nothing)
I am gonna call them on Tuesday (tomorrow is bank holiday) and have a word...I feel cheated having to fork out dough when details like this should have been highlighted
Cheers guys.... |

Just to clarify, free Orange Care (ie if you are on one of the old inclusive Talkplans, or are a registered business user) has never applied to Smartphones such as the P800. A separate subsription must be taken for your phone to be covered. This should have been pointed out to you at the point of upgrade. Did you do your upgrade direct, or through a retailer?

I applied for the new phone through speaking to Orange direct.
cat975, you seem to be quite knowledgeable on this, like I said I can't remember them saying anything about insurance not applying to the new phone...so what do you think my chances are?

I would pursue it as they did not mention it and therefore are breaking their contract. As long as you do have Orange care and are paying for it then what I would do is this. Ring them and ask if you have Orange care on your account, do not mention the damage to your phone just ask if you have the care package on your account. If they say yes then you are paying for a service which does not cover you and they should have informed you of this. You then should have good cause to demand a refund of the care you have paid or get a new phone for free and if you speek to the right person, you may end up with compensation in the form of line rental or something similar, as they want you to be a happy customer.

But the problem is I have told them...like I said I as far as I know I was insured, so called them with out a thought....on hindsight we all know better.
But on Tuesday I am gonna do some ear bending!

yeh, im in the same boat as evoke... new orange contract with orange care.... i got my phone from the Orange Shop and the scrutty little bitch that signed me up didnt mention anything like this when i took out Orange Care ...
i would like to know what insurance cover we actually get with Orange Care then. Cus right now it seems that we are paying them for no cover at all.

rang customer services... lady cant confirm anything right now and advised me to call back on tuesday... she said that the only 3 fones excluded from the Orange Care service are:
Nokia Communicator
Trium Smartphone
some other shit brick...
She pointed out that this list seems quite old (no shit!) and would probably be updated.... but it is very unlikely that the p800 will be included.
so, guess me av to wait till tuesday for a deff answer!

If you pay for Orange Care, then you are covered. Simple as! That's why "the scrutty little bitch" advised you to take it. |
