I don't think you need to worry about the country of origin too much. Malaysia finishes a lot of products for major manufacturers. For e.g almost all Sony products are assembled in Malaysia these days.. and prob most electronics manufacturers will be moving to China in the future.
Furthermore, a lot of the process of contract manufacturing is automated so more or less, there's less room for human error.
However, electronic parts can fail as QC can never be 100% so important thing is to double chk your phone when u get it before you pay. Chk the keypad for even lighting, the screen for any damage (check edges as well). Also, test the fit of the battery and look out for signs of a returned product. If you suspect that the product has been opened before, insist on another box to compare, its YOUR hard earned money so you have a right to double check.
